This is my favourite store in Ottawa. I especially love their rye bread, cinnamon croissants and pecan slices. My kids rate the doughnuts highly. I've never yet stopped for coffee, but the breakfast and lunch counter looks very inviting.
Every time I am at the Rideau Bakery it's a nostalgic experience. The space is a well preserved blast from the past. I wouldn't change any part of its haphazard decor. I love the counter for a great breakfast with a homey, warm and friendly appeal. Love the breakfast. The ... bakery bakes possibly the world's best rye bread. I’ve been wanting to go here for a while and it definitely met my expectations. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We ate at the coffee bar in there and it was a nice experience. They have a lot of variety of pies, pastries, croissants and donuts, breads, pizza, ... sandwiches, soups( These are just a handful but there was more). Everything was fresh and tasted great. Have very fond memories of Rideau Dark Rye bread from my childhood in Ottawa 1970-1976. My sister and I used to toast it, butter it and then dip it in pure Maple Syrup...for breakfast. It is awesome all by it's self with soft butter on it too. Every time I find ... myself in Ottawa for a course I put my order in so that I can bring it back to the Toronto and Barrie area for family, friends, neighbours and ME. Best Rye bread in Canada.
