Mongolian Village - Ottawa, Ontario

We have been going to Mongolian since it opened. We have always loved their food and been very happy with the service. Until our last visit. We always get XL portions in order to have some for the next day. I also get the dumplings because they are tasty. This time we were ... among the first diners in on a Wed night. As we went around to grab food we noticed around the meat section, an odd smell. So, with each meat we picked up, we checked and they all seemed fine. Must have been a smell from before they opened. I grabbed all my usual. Our food arrived with the usual service and a smile. I ate a bit and it was delicious. Then I went to try a dumpling. I immediately spit it out as I tasted spoiled chicken. I thought perhaps it was a fluke so I tried a very small bite of a second one. Nope. The sever was very apologetic and kind. He asked if I wanted to try a new plate. Nope. I was kind of done. He said that the ma ager offered a 10% discount. Seriously. I requested to speak to the manager. She stood firm as did i. I was not taking 10% for rotten food. She explained that they had removed all the dumplings and that they were only from last night. They had made new o es if I wanted some. Nope. She offered 15% but that was as high as she was going. We go here often for a meal. The food is fresh and lots of different choices. The food is amazing and the service is incredible. We plan to keep visiting this place frequently and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good stir fry! The different options are ... endless. Great daiquiris as well. Going to this place with my family for dinner, I didn't really expect much of the food here. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food was really good - prepared well, not overcooked, and the flavour was decent. The best thing to go for here is the raw section where you ... place raw items that you like in a bowl and hand it over to the chef at the round grill table. You also add the sauces you like to the bowl, so that good would not be dry after cooking. This setup is really convenient, particularly when you come with children who like or dislike certain foods. It was our first time at this place and I can say the food was okay. I mean, some things were good and some were not the best. Stir fry was good. Again, I have tried better. We ordered spring rolls and they were cold/frozen from the middle. Hot and ... sour soup wasn’t great too. But at least it was complimentary. So no complains there. Will I try again?
