We were looking for an haute cuisine experience for my birthday. After reading reviews we decided to go to Le 18. — it fell short. We made reservations quite a bit in advance, and were seated at the front of the restaurant where the wallpaper beside our table was quite ... dirty which seemed unusual for such an establishment. Our waiter was friendly, we asked him quite a few times for recommendations. We started with Old Fashions which were just ok. We ordered beef tartar and scallops for our appetizers and they were both great. What fell short was our mains, we ordered rib eye and a filet mignon and both were tasteless, potato purée was dry, and the peppercorn gravy a chose was honestly inedible. I’ve truthfully had a much better steak dinner across the street at the keg. We were extremely disappointed! Neither of us finished our meals, it didn’t live up to our expectations at all. We received a complimentary happy birthday macaron dish and they were delicious. All in all, it was just ok. Reading the other reviews I definitely don’t feel we received the same experience at all. Disappointed ☹️ Edit: I’ll also add that the waiter asked if any allergies, we informed him of a mushroom allergy and our beef tartar arrived with pile of mushrooms beside it. Read more

Really amazing restaurant with great food, good service and elegant interior. Only downside from this outing was food took a bit of time to come out as their kitchen was busy but the good drinks and ambiance made up for it in addition to the delicious food as well.

This spot has plenty of room and a chill vibe (even the background music has a laid-back beat). You’ll find a wide variety of dishes here because the chef seems to love mixing up different cuisines and using ingredients from all over the world in unexpected ways. Theres a special ... section dedicated to raw seafood and meat, and it’s all super fresh and tasty (oysters and shrimp in particular, arguably the best in Ottawa). For Vegetarians and vegans there are a handful of options too. And if you’re in the mood for something straightforward/ more basic, they serve less complex dishes such as french fries and grilled veggies. Plus, the staff is super friendly. Read more

Came here for an anniversary dinner - our waiter Adam was phenomenal and kind. Thank you Adam! We never had to wait for water as our glasses were always topped up. Ok , first time trying out this restaurant, honestly, not a big fan of restaurants around the Byward market area but : If I could live 6 starts to this place , I'll give them 7 .
