I have tried John's BBQ twice, and the chicken is good. I also appreciate calling in to place an order for pickup. However, I don't appreciate placing an order for pick up at a certain time and still having to wait in line for 10 minutes for people who are ... placing walk in orders. This defeats the purpose of me calling in ahead of time. There are other Portuguese restaurants in the community I'll be trying before I go back to John's. Read more

The lunch combo is pretty good value but isn't exactly a cheap meal. You get half a chicken, rice and potatoes for about $12. There's an option for mild or spicy chicken. It's definitely filling.

I have lived in this area for 25 years and back in the day this was the best place to go for fresh, delicious food. We ordered food for baptisms and communion and friends and relatives loved it. But lately the food has gone downhill. The chicken is still the ... best but the fish is totally undercooked. We have been going to John's at least once per year for the past 6 years we have lived in the neighborhood. The chicken is always fantastic and our family and friends love it. Definitely 5-star food. I need to subtract 2 stars for the service though. As other have said, ... it's tough to find a smile or personable conversation from the staff (owners?), but this isn't the biggest issue... their order pick-up system is awful and needs an overhaul. I ordered my food at 12pm for a 5pm pick-up. I get there for 4:55, yet have to stand in line for 25min. They operate "first come first serve" at the cash, regardless of if you are just picking up a placed order or ordering on the spot. I had to stand and watch two "walk-ins" place their order, have it prepared, pay and walk out, before they even started to get my order ready. What is the point of ordering ahead, if they prep walk-in orders while you wait in line for half an hour? Shouldn't it be ready for me to just grab it? I get it that they might not want to cut the chicken early to keep it juicy, but they should at least start prepping it when i walk in at the time of my pickup and not force me to wait in line. I will likely be back again as my family loves the food, but probably less often then I would if they sorted out their pickup system. Read more
