Portage Bakery - Niagara Falls, Ontario

Great place for a quick lunch. Appreciated the friendly service. A relaxing respite from the business of Clifton Hill. Had sandwiches (they wrapped half for us to take home) and a couple delicious dessert options (it is a bakery after all).

Having read several Facebook recommendations, I finally tried it. No disappointments. Staff were helpful and courteous. Sandwich was fresh and espressos were excellent. We had the pastries at home later and found them to be fresh and tasty. My only suggestion would he to have prices listed in the ... counters and itemized bill to know what you're spending. 4 instead if 5 stars because of this. I’d give the service a 6th star if I could. So nice and helpful. We are driving g from Vermont to Colorado and stopped through to see the falls. I bought Pastries from this fresh bakery. Number one nothing has a price on it in the store period they say they're very busy they do a lot of baking it takes 2 seconds to throw up a piece of paper in front of the rack that says the ... price. Number 2 I get home i prepare my lunch i eat my lunch so it's about an hour i bite into my pastry and it's frozen solid. They tell me they have to freeze them to be able to cut them perhaps there should be a sign that let you know that as well. When you are expecting to bite into something and get a flavor that you enjoy and you get a big solid chunk ice it's really disgusting. By the time my pastry thawed out it was just a pile of mush. I called and asked if they were freshly baked there I was told they were. I was put through to the supervisor I was told that they freeze them after they make them. I believe this to be a lie because of the fact that the way it was frozen was like it was freezer burnt in the middle. Read more

A really nice bakery with an eat in area. Hot table. Fresh bread. All the quality European meat, cheese and baked goodies. Staff are super friendly. Clean washrooms 5*
