Stopped by for lunch today - enjoyed my beef and lamb platter! The meat was not dry, tasted well seasoned and I enjoyed the garlic and sweet sauce. Rice was cooked perfectly, I enjoyed the yogurt dip with my pita as well. Sweet sauce is pretty sweet so I’ll ask ... for less of that next time! Owner served me with a smile and price is reasonable. My husband brought me to Ishtar Donair from white rock just to show me this place. We got the chicken falafel platter and let me tell you it is like an explosion of flavors in your mouth. Everything is so fresh, made with precision and love. You can tell this ... guy knows what he's doing!! Im not usually a huge fan of chunky salads, but this one omg, the dressing on it, the jalapeños EVERYTHING, was fabulous. First time visit. Surprisingly satisfied with the food and the service, will definitely return! In my opinion, it's better than other donair stores in terms of quality, value, and service. The salad is rich in quality ingredients; the fried rice is mixed with chopped vegitables; the sauces are tasty, the samosas (both veggie ... and beef) fresh. Overall, I could see the chef had put in love and care into the food. Good packaging for takeout. The staff (owner?) was very friendly and patient. Free parking available. Ishtar Donair is a relatively newish restaurant that opened up in the former Taza Falafel House location on 6th Street in New Westminster. They serve up the same type of food so there’s not much of a change to the interior… expect to find mainly donairs and shawarmas here. On my ... first visit, I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Platter ($10.70) which is served on rice, with tabbouleh, pickled veggies, and some pretty tasty chicken that’s sliced off the rotating spit. On my next visit, I tried their Lamb Donair ($7.20) which is stuffed inside a pita pocket along with the veggies of your choosing (ie. cucumbers, tabbouleh, red onions, pickles, tahini and hot sauce. It’s a fairly good sized portion and, overall, not bad in terms of the lamb. The Chicken Shawarma Wrap is quite similar with a good amount of charred chicken from the spit while the Beef Donair is also very similar to the lamb and chicken versions. Since I’m on a roll with the wraps, I also tried the Falafel Wrap ($6.50) whichis fried-up to order so it takes a few more minutes to make. The falafel had a nice crispness to the exterior and I actually really enjoyed this meat-less wrap. Overall, very solid offering to satisfy your donair, falafel, or shawarma craving.
