The Beefeater Steak House - Medicine Hat, Alberta

This place is top dollar and worth every cent. The service was impeccable with our server very in tune with our needs. Other servers also kept an eye on each other's tables, ensuring no empty glasses and no dirty plates. Our meal progressed flawlessly from drinks to appetizer to ... main course. We were neither rushed, nor did we wait. Our dishes were skillfully prepared and plated. Hot food was hot, cold food was cold. We ate at the Beefeater last night with friends. My friend and I ordered the Ribeye and T-Bone steaks and could not have been more underwhelmed. Both steaks were very thin like minute steaks; I'm unsure how they thought they could even cool mine medium rare (it was ... not cooked correctly). I wanted to try the ribeye steak.... 50$ for 10 oz.... it was just ok and the cut was very very thin. Ordered the baby roasted potatoes and literally got 4 on my plate. Other options were a loaded baked potato which I should have gotten for money value, ... and not home made fries.... definitely a bit underwhelming for our first time there. So plate came with a half a handful of green beans, 4 baby potatoes, and a very thin "10oz" steak. You also get a small side salad and a piece of toast. Is that worth 50$? I'm sorry it really wasn't filling my tastebuds for the money. Hubby ordered the king steak.. (16 oz ) which was huge! Thinking 2" thick steak, onion soup, toast, loaded BP yorkshire pudding and veggies......Now HIS order was worth the 54$ for that! His meat was cooked to perfection and melt in your mouth. First time here and it lived up to the recommendations I received. My server Melynda was very nice and checked back regularly. Being carb free, I was a little disappointed that they would not substitute the potato choices for another vegetable without an upcharge and only offered ... sliced tomatoes so I paid for the mushrooms which were delicious. Another slight disappointment was they did not have any blue cheese dressing for the salad which I think goes hand in hand with a steakhouse. I went with the Greek feta option which tasted a bit out of the bottle. I ordered the 12 oz Prime Rib and it did not disappoint at all. The au jus was a bit thick and I asked to make sure it wasn't the gravy. The horse radish was very good....very fresh and hot. Stop into The Beefeater for the first time and I've heard good things about the restaurant so thought I'd better try it out. Well my first impression of the restaurant wasn't the greatest. The atmosphere is nice but a little on the dark side. The servers were nice and helpful ... especially when it came to the issue with my meal. My wife and I came for some nice steak dinners and well everything was good but the steaks weren't cooked correctly. My wife's was over cooked and the best part of mine was over cooked. Photos of the steaks will be posted along with the trimming... Was so hungry I didn't get to take a photo of the salad. I would to mention the management looked after this problem properly no question ask. I will be back to give the restaurant one more try as I believe in second chances. Read more
