I ordered a large 2 meat combo (jerk chicken and ox tail) and a side order of just jerk pork. The 2 meat combo came with a tablespoon size of coleslaw, 3 small pieces of ox tail and 3 small pieces of jerk chicken. For 20 dollars, that's not worth ... it. Taste was okay, nothing special. The jerk pork was 8 dollars and really dry. Read more
Came here to get lunch because my landlord was doing renovations upstairs and the power was out so I couldn’t cook anything for my son. Saw this place a few times and wanted to try it out. Nice people, good service, food too expensive for the portion size. I couldn’t ... take a picture of the food as my phone died and due to the power outage that lasted 10.5 hours, I couldn’t charge it in the house so I tried to charge it in the car but it didn’t work. It takes a long time to start up again when dead. Anyways, I got the oxtail dinner size for my mother, and it was $19.50, got the island chicken (fried bbq) $14.50, a malt for my mother $3, and a patty for my son (I don’t remember how much this was). It all came to $42.50 and I remember thinking “I hope it tastes amazing!” Got home, started eating, and it tasted as if the rice and peas was missing something. I can’t quite say what it was..maybe it was coconut milk or something else but it wasn’t what I was used to. The fried chicken with bbq sauce was really good. My son enjoyed it. My mother said the oxtail was okay. I didn’t try it as the portion wasn’t big enough, in my opinion, so I didn’t want to take from her, and the patty was okay. For now, I would only return for the island chicken. Read more
I was looking for something for lunch and spotted this place when I was waiting for a traffic light to turn green. So I decided to give it a try. Ordered jerk pork and jerk chicken dinners and a patty. Both dinners ordered large and served with ... rice and peas, coleslaw and wanted them spicy. Both pork and chicken were very tender and not dried out and rice/peas and coleslaw tasted great. The only problem as mentioned by other reviews is the lack of flavour/taste, very mild tasting, not enough jerk seasoning was used. Spicy is just hot sauce on top but the hotness of it to me is like 4 out of 10. These meals could have been a lot better and more enjoyable. The beef patty had a red dot on it, Is it suppose to be hot? It wasn't... Read more
Despite my adventurous dining attitude, sometimes I just want to warm myself with a reliable meal, and with flavours that speak to my childhood. In this case, Negril Jerk Food fit the bill. Negril is a small, takeout only spot at Steeles and Middlefield. There's nothing flashy or extra about Negril, ... and apparently it doesn't have to be, because these guys have been in the area for years, selling staple Jamaican dishes. Along with welcoming and down-home service, you can opt for meals like: curry goat, jerk pork, snapper, and snacks like patties, soups, and festival. This time around I chose the oxtail dinner and coco bread & patty as a side. The oxtail dinner comes with plenty of seasoned rice and healthy helping of oxtail. Like I said, I was in search of reliable flavours, and that's what I got. I can't play around and say that it was amoung the best oxtail meals I've had, but I was happily satisfied. The coco bread and patty on the other hand was a step outside of what I had past experience with. I live on planet Earth, so of course I've had a beef patty before, but the coco bread combination was novel to me. I was surprised to see that it's simply a patty sandwiched between warm coco bread. Though I appreciate the simplicity, my health conscious side had trouble not thinking about the seemingly needless carbohydrate explosion. Anyway, it was tasty. I'm a fan of what these guys are doing. They bring Jamaican-jerk food to south Markham in a good way. Read more
I ordered surplus food from an App. It says the original price was $21. To reduce food wastes, it is $6.99 now. I will never pay $21 for only a small portion of food with soup! Taste is okay. That’s why I gave two stars, not one star. I just ... feel they try to sell more. Read more
