Solid place for some tasty Shanghai food! Steamed Pork Dumplings (xiaolongbao): - large balls of pork filling, but the meat texture was a little coarse - juicy with a nice thin skin Salty Pork & Tofu in Soup: - many chunks of pork belly that had balanced fatty and lean parts - delicious and perfectly salty - ... it was missing bamboo shoots, which is listed in its description Braised Pork with Veg (Dong Po Rou): - well-balanced flavour with succulent fat caps - came with four mini mantou which I wish were larger Braised Sherd Eel - sauce was so umami and thick, best paired with white rice - eel was very different than Japanese unagi in comparison, it was quite firm and dense - not much eel flavour in itself, the sauce does most of the heavy lifting Overall a nice place for Shanghai cuisine, and is comparable or better than the more well-known Din Tai Fung across the street. My family and I have come here since they opened year ago. They have downsized the restaurant. But the food is still very good. Went here for dinner and we loved it! We had been to this spot many years ago for a family birthday but not recently (as there are just so many endless restaurants to try) and are glad we returned. The service was quick and friendly and the food was delicious ... and well priced. We ordered the pork and crab soup dumplings which were savoury and warming. The scallion pancakes were crusty yet doughy and perfectly balanced. The braised pork was fatty and sumptuous. We look forward to returning soon and trying more! Read more

I hadn’t been to A La Kitchen in a while, but was really craving some steamed dumplings and Shanghai fried noodles. I have a few go to places but I decided to order from A La this time and it didn’t disappoint! Also grabbed the pan fried dumplings and there ... was pretty much no leftovers. Good quality chinese food. I had the dinner combo for 2 for $50, which came with a soup, dumplings, 2 dishes and dessert. Food quality exceeded my expectations. Restaurant decor is also slightly upscale. They are busy on weekends, but easy to get a table on weekdays. I will return.
