food was decent, totally acceptable for a relatively cheap casual sushi place. nigiri pieces were large, good selection of menu items, no complains about the food. we were not done eating and were rushed out at 4 pm, restaurant was mostly empty so it’s not like they needed the table, we ... ordered a lot of food and were not there overly long, were courteous and everything. no idea why they effectively kicked us out, shoved pos system to make us pay and leave etc. very disappointing. Wonderful experience! Celebrated our fathers 75th birthday and they welcomed our party of 10. We extended our stay for a total of 2 1/2 hours and they gladly welcomed us! So there we were 7:30 Friday night, really in the mood for Japanese food, (knowing this was late for Maple Ridge) I checked FB looking for some hidden gem, again knowing this was late for our fun city, read good things about Sushi Umibe, decided to give it a try, boy ... were we glad we did! ☆Chicken teriyaki was amazing- crispy pieces of chicken with the perfect amount of sauce, not over loaded and drowning in it. The 2 rolls we tried were new to us but again did not disappoint: ☆Umibe Roll said it was spicy but it wasn't too much, just the right amount of heat in the spicy mayo ☆Prosciutto Roll- perfect balance of salty and sweet with mango sauce topped with a caper on each piece. The service was amazing! As soon as we walked in the door, we had a warm welcome from I'm guessing the owner. The young lady serving us was constantly on the ready, always keeping an eye on our tea level, which, by the way, has a nice nutty flavour. The food was fast, fresh, hot and oh so tasty! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE This place ruined my life. I ate here once and now I cant eat sushi anywhere else. Not only do I have limited selection of sushi restaurants but I now live in constant fear of this place one day closing (all good things end one day..) I ... also suffer from serious depression when they're closed for holidays and whatnot. If you're brave enough, and have about 20 bucks to spend per person, this place offers some seriously fresh sushi and friendliest service I've seen in a while. I've been to this place 3 times in the past month! Each time was great. The food is amazing and full of flavour!!! Fish is fresh!! Service is also good. They have sooooo many special rolls to choose from. Highly recommended.
