Dono Sushi - Lethbridge, Alberta

My husband and I came here for dinner for my birthday. We are from out of town and thought we would try it out. We were greeted right away, the waitress was very friendly and showed us to our table. She brought us our waters right away and dishes. She ... took our order within 5 mins of us sitting down and looking at the menu. She rang in our order and another tables order straight away! It took under 10 mins for our appetizer to arrive and not too long after that for the rest of our food. The flavor of everything was incredible and was all very obviously fresh! The only thing I had a small complain about was that the sushi pieces would fall apart real easy which made it a little hard to eat but just also shows that everything was truly fresh ingredients and the flavor of everything over ruled all of that so I didn’t even care. The waitress checked in on us often, refilled our drinks and took away our empty dishes as soon as we were done with them. We were also given a free piece of tempura cheesecake for my birthday and that was one of the best things I have ever tasted! Overall excellent experience, some of the best sushi we've ever had. Food is decent. It's acceptable. Price is fine. No real issues. The whole experience is very average. Except, the service is just terrible. They are not very welcoming and are very casual towards patrons. You basically show up and they point to a booth, no real service there but it ... works so ok. The real issue is that your server will only show up when they need to. Take your order, bring your food, and if you're lucky, they'll pay enough attention to you to bring your bill. I have eaten here several times now and the experience is always the same. Your water is never refilled, you are never asked about the food, you don't get any check-ins. You are left alone almost entirely. I think some people may like this, and in some restaurants it may work well, but here, where everyone is hidden in a booth and there's no self-serve, it means long, unnecessary waits for any service. Easily the best sushi in Lethbridge. Their lunch boxes are fantastic value. I had to check the menu again when my food came because I couldn't believe I got all this for $17.50. The little curtained booths are cute for a cozy meal.

This was my first time here, I came with my brother who eats here frequently and says it's the 2nd best sushi in Lethbridge, but it has better prices so he usually chooses Dono as it is the best value. Great food, my daughter was with us as well and ... there is something on the menu for all tastes from tempura rolls (fully cooked ingredients) to nigiri (usually raw fish on rice) they also have tempura vegetables and shrimp, which were also really good. Beautiful place with amazing food! It gets quite busy a lot which means the food takes a while as well, but it's worth it. Takoyaki, Chicken Mayo Bowl, Deep-fried Gyoza, and Creamy Lava Roll are the ones we often order.
