We had an amazing Sunday breakfast. The kids were so happy and satisfied. The food was great, the pancakes were delicious and the owner is very friendly. My daughter told me to give 1000 stars rating 😂

Great Food, Great Service and Great prices. My grandparents are moving to a condo near by and we decided to walk around and check out local business’s. We chose The Checkerboard for lunch. It was 2:30 when we came in and sadly realized they closed at 3pm on Mondays so ... we didn’t get to stay too long. The server was very kind and told us to take our time eating. The menu has some great choices and the prices just can’t be beat. This will be our new place for family lunches and dinners for sure. Food was yummy and great value! I got the Egg, Cheese and Bacon sandwich with buttered mushrooms on the side and a tea. My mom got a BLT with fries and a coffee. Our bill came to around $24 with is amazing for a lunch for 2 with drinks and sides. The portions were also very generous. I’m excited to come back with my grandparents who have fish and chips every Friday! The 1 piece fish and chips was only $9.99 on the menu! Also my daughter’s favourite grilled cheese was under $4. Cute little place and the food was yummy, the service is also decent and I'm sure it's a place that many hold near and dear as it's a family business that's been around for a long time. They also seem like very nice people and definitely have their regulars but ... after looking up and seeing the amount of dust in the restaurant on the fake plants I was appalled. When we sat at our table I started sneezing uncontrollably so we started looking around and there it was right above me. Also, the restroom downstairs had a lot of flies and was kept in very very poor condition, broken door, overflowing garbage, sticky floors broken soap dispenser but the flies ughh. After seeing that we quickly paid and left, we will not go back. I understand if a place is old but that does not mean the cleanliness needs to be neglected :( It made me sad because I really wanted to like the place and have it possibly be our little family breakfast spot. The food is also very cheap, I reckon if they raised their prices a bit they can have more income to kind of clean the place up. Read more
