Sake Sushi - Kingsville, Ontario

I was shocked the entire time we sat for dinner other patrons were saying how much they loved this place… The salmon sashimi had an off texture, nearly inedible. Tempura was undercooked and the dough was raw in places. Everything tasted like it was cooked in a super sweet sauce ... that ruined the flavor of every roll. The teriyaki beef just tasted low grade and was tough. The bright side was that the servers were courteous and very friendly. We only chose this place because it had high reviews and we’re not from the area. It seems like the most recent reviews are agreeing with me and the place is bad news. What a dump! The all you can eat food was horrible! The only decent thing were the spring rolls, and that was about it. The beef ribs were tough and chewy, the tempura shrimp were soggy, the calamari was over breaded and tasted old, the California roll tasted warm. I ... have never tasted a warm sushi roll before, but this place managed to make it happen. The chicken Katsu was over breaded and it fell apart in my hand, which was just very, very weird. Maybe I have different expectations of what a place like this should be like because I figured with all the positive reviews it would be better than it was but I would not recommend this place and I will never go back because it was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in my life! My wife got the General Tsao’s chicken and it tasted nothing like General Taos’s chicken. Over breaded and the sauce was nasty. Just tasted like ginger. We had eaten at Koi in downtown Kingsville and it was 1000 times better than this place could ever hope to be. If they offered me free food for life, I would tell them absolutely no way! My last visit was horrible. I use to come here all the time (close to home). They messed up my order and took long with many items. It is all you can eat and when I ordered my 3 round of salmon sashimi I was asked for takeout, definitely ... implying to pay seperate. (They 100% cut the servings at least 50% smaller). The staff has changed too and I did not get the small town restaurant vibe. Waiters kept passing our table and looking away, it was hard to get their attention for service. Good Japanese restaurant, tasteful food. Fried banana was delicious. Nice and friendly staff, but service was a bit slow.

Food is fresh and hot. Desserts are awesome too. (Edit) Alright we have been there quite a few times since we got here, always for buffet. We've noticed something. It seems like the staff know that we eat a lot and they try to make us leave early by ignoring ... our table after a few dishes. It's a buffet, so it feels a bit dishonest to stop serving us hoping that we leave. One time they even brought the receipt after about one hour of service. The price is the same as some places in Windsor, so we're driving there from now on. Not worth the mistreating. No hard feelings though. We Latinos are used to being treated differently. Read more
