Spring Sushi - Hamilton, Ontario

We were a group of 8 who dined at Spring Sushi today. We had the ‘all you can eat’ dinner. Our service was fabulous. Each dish was freshly made, and flavourful. Our server accommodated our requests promptly and offered suggestions when asked. The coconut shrimp, sushi rolls, and mango salad ... were amazing. I would rate Spring Sushi around three out of five stars. On the positive side, they do accommodate allergies, which is very exciting. The food came out quickly, and the service was nice, quick, and polite. However, we did get the miso soup, and it tasted like soap. I'm wondering ... if there was something wrong with it. Not sure if that's supposed to be. The rest of the food was pretty good overall. I do think it's not worth the cost, though. It's too expensive for the amount that you get. I hate to waste food, and it's so expensive that you'd think they would let you pack up the leftovers. I like to eat at fancy restaurants and I’m willing to put out a cost. However, I don’t think that this specific location or quality food is worth even half of the cost if I’m honest. If it was more reasonably priced, I would change the rating to higher. This was the first time we've come to Spring Sushi in a very long time. It used to be our go-to sushi place in Hamilton, but we felt the quality had dropped and switched to other places. We've recently tried the Spring Sushi in Toronto, and our most recent visit ... there was astounding! It had some of the freshest fish I've eaten in Canada, and was comparable to the sushi I've had from Japan. So, we decided to try the Hamilton location again, and we were severely disappointed. We went for AYCE lunch a couple of hours into opening. Everything was okay, but none of the sushi actually tasted very good. All the cuts were very mediocre quality sushi, but the dishes we tried were awful. The chicken stir fry and the teriyaki chicken were both very bad and were the only things we didn't finish. The flavour of the stir fry was just bad and the chicken was slimy, and the teriyaki chicken was extremely dry. When our waiter asked us if we were done with the teriyaki chicken, we replied yes and that it was extremely dry, and all he had to say in response was "I know". Very funny, but not what you want from the food at your restaurant. There is also a new festured "G-Dragon" roll, and for any fans out there, don't let the name fool you. It is not good and is not worth trying just for the novelty of it. When we were ordering dessert, we ordered a Melona bar in addition to some other things, and it wasn't until the order was sent through that we were told that they were actually out of Melona bars. Disappointing for sure, and they didn't ask if we wanted any substitution. Overall, mediocre food and a weirdly lit ambiance. I would not recommend and will very likely not try this location again. Well, let's start with the place, I don't like its furniture, it has curtains and besides, they are put up badly or you don't even notice that they are taken down (I don't understand those curtains) now let's go with the food: everything is cold, you can tell that everything ... has been prepared for a long time. We tried Spring Sushi this weekend after some long time sushi cravings. The staff were very quick to seat us and stayed on top of service and drinks. There were so many different items to choose from, I would say we definitely got our money worth. The overall atmosphere was ... nice, very bright. The food was good and definitely hit the spot.
