Butcher and the Vegan - Hamilton, Ontario

I wanted to love this place, but sadly I can only give three stars. First off, the waiter was a sweetheart. He didn't know too much about the menu but always went to ask if he wasn't 100%. Wish I appreciated since I'm lactose intolerant and wanted to enjoy my meal. The ... menu wasn't bad, I thought the choices were well varied and there was something for everyone. I'd feel good recommending it to anyone else with a food allergy. It was obvious that they cared. Also, dress warm if your going. It was freezing! They're in an old house so expect a cool draft. The food was well prepared, it was a bit slow to come out, but nothing unreasonable. It was just...well, the flavours really didn't compliment each other. I went with 3 other friends and we all felt like our meals were not the best. Which was disappointing because we wanted to support this local business and comeback time and again. But at their prices we just can't justify a return visit for at least a few months. I know it can be complicated building a menu, but I just don't think they are there yet. We will try again in summer when they change their menu and it's warmer. I hope by then they will have improved their food. Read more

Partner and I both absolutely loved it. Food was AMAZING. We're definitely not foodies by any means but our meals were SO flavourful. We were totally blown away. Ingredients were amazing. Service was incredible. We both had an amazing brunch for under $40. Highly recommend!

Fantastic find. The ability to have either meat or vegan for many dishes helps this place score many points. Loved the Salmon, the dish was the best. The beets were okay, could have been better heated in my opinion. The Mac and cheese was good, but I don't like the ... oyster mushrooms, didn't add anything to the dish. Fantastic service too. Absolutely awesome! This is a great place with BOTH excellent vegan food and carnivorous options. I've worked in the restaurant industry for more than a decade, good dining experiences are hard to come by these days. Butcher and the vegan nails it. Our waiter Mike was one of the better servers I've ever ... seen. A very cool attitude, knowledgeable and organized. The chef, Cody really added to the experience as well. Not only can he cook fantastic food, but he took the time to make sure we enjoyed everything and valued our feedback. This place has a great atmosphere. Definitely a casual place and they own the esthetic. The doors are wide open in the summer for a nice breeze, there's a great mix of music that will appeal to anyone.
