Porters Lake Pub and Grill - Halifax, Nova Scotia

I am from Ontario and very new to the Porters Lake area - we have very much enjoyed the food as we indulged in their menu on a weekly basis - their staff and service were second to none. We decided to speak with one of the two owners ... Brent (he was normally the one working when we were there)about catering our wedding - he set up a meeting with Chef extraordinaire Gary - we decided to go with the Prime Rib and Atlantic Salmon, Roasted Potatoes with a couple of Gary’s tantalizing Dressings - the one twist is I had to have their Seafood Chowder served at the Wedding (I know not the most popular item at a Wedding) and instead of a Wedding Cake - I had opted for 4 of Gary’s homemade Cheesecakes - and Gary did not disappoint, he made that happen. We had 55 Guests 20 of them being from Ontario - they ranted and raved all evening about both the Prime Rib and the Salmon but the biggest complement was that the other half growing up on the East Coast have never had a more succulent Seafood Chowder in their lives (and that was very hard for a couple of them to admit lol) Gary had everyone absolutely full (some even going for a third helping) and was cleaned up and gone within an hour and a half. Just had some of the best most perfectly cooked clams prepared by Ellie at the PLP. My spouse had the Reuben and he loved it. Absolutely delicious. 🤍 I’ll be back! Gem in the community.

Have had the fish & chips there several times in the past 6 months. Very good & like the fact they have the coleslaw in a light vinegar dressing. 😀 Last week switched it up and tried the Acadian burger. Good burger, filling, not messy and very tasty. Clinton served us, most professional and despite having to handle the bar and the dining room, was extremely attentive. Clinton recommended the Chicken sandwich with sweet potatoes fries and it did not disappoint - delicious. Cheesecake homemade and wonderful. Disappointed the french fries are not freshly cut ( ... frozen). Establishment is clean but is very dark and dismal. They could certainly lighten up the place by day, install dimmers for night. Always bumpin’ & the staff are wicked. Fun spot to bring out of town guests, especially on Thursday nights for music & wings. My favourite is the deep fried pickles! The fish, potato skins & burgers are always great too. Cool decor.
