Fredies Fantastic Fishhouse - Halifax, Nova Scotia

It’s a casual place with some amazing fish and chips. Dare I say the best around these parts?! Fish was battered and cooked so perfectly to order, and the fries were fresh. I recommend this place 😍

Fish batter is crisp, and the fish is fresh. Tastes so nice. The chowder base was consistent and not gruel-ish. It had a big scallop, fresh haddock, and lots of chunks of lobster. Service is friendly and attentive. This is a place that has maintained its reputation for a reason.

I don’t recommend Fredie’s Fantastic Fishhouse. I ordered the half seafood platter. The scallops were good but the rest was terrible. The clams were small, very greasy, and tasted burnt. I remember getting really good clams here last summer so this was a big disappointment. The fish was overcooked and ... dry and the fries were cold. I ordered takeout but opened it in the parking lot and was there when they packed it so it wasn’t sitting in packaging more than a couple of minutes. The staff was very friendly. Read more

Thank you for the warm and welcome hospitalty! The atmosphere of a street diner at a strip mall, mostly seating at counters, my husband raved about their fish and chips and fried clams. Been trying to get here for over a month as I've been in and out of town and glad I was finally able to make it. Originally came in for a lobster roll, but went fish and chips as it was suggested to me. I'm very happy I gave it a ... try because the fish and chips were delicious. A house made tartar sauce would make it better, but the pre-packaged sauce was still better than most. I will definitely be back, and looking forward to trying a lobster roll on that visit. Read more
