This restaurant is not what it was since the new owners...I'm sorry but we tried it for the first time this evening and it was a total disappointment!! The hummus simply tasted like burnt ashes, we barely had a few bites of salad and I had to ask for them ... to add onions and tomatoes?!! When we were going to pay, they didn't even give us a pita bread?!! They were like busy arguing, or I don't know but phew! the atmosphere, the food, the service...everything was the same: mediocre!! When it was Basha, with Badi's service...what a difference!!! For several years, I have toured almost everything that is done as shawarma in Gatineau as well as several in Ottawa. The one we “adopted” closed a few months ago, then we discovered there was a new one, Shawarma Castle. Let me tell you that for my wife (who is of ... Moroccan origin) and me, it is, by far, the one where the food is the freshest, the most colorful, the best presented (really a careful and inviting presentation ) and, above all, the best seasoned one I have eaten in a restaurant of this type (shawarma). What taste! Plus, the portions are generous. We've been going there three or four times now, with family as well as with friends and their guests from Morocco (who were also won over). I ordered a family dish for 4 people thinking that it wouldn't be enough for us, but the surprise was that we couldn't finish it because it was such a good quantity. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I had gotten a mixed kafta and chicken kebab plate (he mixed it up for me) and since I was sharing with my bf I wasn't sure if it would be enough. Boy was I wrong, this plate for around $13 ... was huge (and I can eat). I could've fed three adults. Not only that but he seasoned it to my liking and gave me extra pita ! The food here is actually pretty good. Just don't expect service around closing time. Twice I've come to this location at around 925pm(closing time 10pm) and was refused service. I only get off at work at 9 so I have no other option. If you are going to close ... at 930 consistently maybe you should change your hours accordingly, so patrons can time their visits accordingly or shop elsewhere.
