Wakefield Bakery - Gatineau, Quebec

We visited this quaint local bakery last weekend. I chose the rhubarb strawberry "handpie" and found it delicious! It had a beautiful flaky pastry, but not greasy or too rich, which was to my liking. A buttertart and Philly sandwich were also sampled by our group. The sandwich was warm, ... made on the spot, and good-sized. My cup of tea wasn't too bitter either. It was my first time here today and I loved it! Ate a cinnamon bun and donut which were both delicious. Best cinnamon bun I’ve had in a long time! I brought my two year old son and he didn’t want to leave since he loved the toys and games! ... Bought some short ribs and sausages on my way out so looking forward to cooking that up. They have a wide variety of pastries to choose from. I personally enjoyed the chocolatine and the berry pastry. The millionaire shortbread is also good if you have a big sweet tooth. I wasn't a big fan of the cinnamon roll as it was on the drier side. Their scone ... also was just ok. I brought it back home and slathered it with jam, and it was better. Never busy. Always my favorite stop for a scone and sometimes a date square. Great owners. Worth the trip. And, far more reasonable than that other expensive coffee shop in town. ;-)
