Watari - Edmonton, Alberta

My husband and I were in this cafe for the first time and we were very pleasantly surprised! very fast service, huge portions, delicious, fresh fish. I was delighted. comfortable atmosphere.

Went early on a Sunday (they open at 4). Not busy when we arrived but did start to fill up as we started to order. Dishes came out quick and good food. Parking was easy as they have some reserved spots in the back. We ordered the beef tataki which ... was extra on top of the AYCE menu, the menu said you got 10 pieces but it was hardly 6 pieces and sliced so thin you could see through it. I seriously love this place. Great atmosphere, the seating is awesome because almost every table is an intimate booth (making it great for dates), the service is always quick and courteous, and the food... Is just fantastic. An incredible experience here. Even though it was an hour wait, it was well worth it and I can see why people don't mind waiting. Watari offers ayce Japanese cuisine which is mainly served tapas style. This is great if you want to have small samples of over 100 different items. I ... like this approach as I hate wasting food, even if it's something I don't like so at least I'm only eating a small sample and I can order something different for the next round. All of the food we selected was delicious but the stars would be the squid rings, sesame chicken and spicy potato noodles. Of course you need to have some sushi rolls and sashimi which were great. Service was awesome, our waitress was helpful in recommending some dishes and was very quick to bring our food, clear away dirty dishes and to have more food ordered. Props to the kitchen staff for pumping out 100000 dishes of food over the weekend and of course the dishwashers for having to wash 100000 little dishes daily.
