Check out TOP-10 Best Japanese restaurants in Edmonton, AlbertaReviews for Furusato Japanese Restaurant in Edmonton, Alberta
I stopped by Furusato along Whyte Ave for dinner a few months ago. The restaurant looked mediocre at best from outside. However, it was unique and cozy with all the interesting decor. Service was good as they offered new plates throughout the meal and the servers were friendly. In ... terms of food, I tried their Large Assorted Sashimi, Tempura Udon, and Dragon Eye Roll. There was quite a bit of tempura with the udon and the overall dish was comforting. The Dragon Eye Roll was crispy and decent. What stood out the most was the large assorted sashimi. All the sashimi were quite fresh, with the best being red tuna, tuna, scallop, and salmon (it also came with octopus, butterfish/white tuna, red snapper, amaebi, surf clam). The sashimi felt like a good value given the quality and price. That being said, the pieces were smaller than most places. Overall, it felt like a small hidden gem on Whyte and I’d give them 8.5/10 Read more
A true hidden jem of a Japanese restaurant in Edmonton at an affordable price point. From the outside, it does not seem much, but inside is similar to a typical family-owned Japanese restaurant. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is calm. More importantly, the foods are amazing and ... authentic Japanese. We love the tonkatsu, katsudon and yakisoba. Everything we tried so far is spot on, yum! Read more
This place is next to my brother's place and we have gone there consistently for the best sushi on Whyte. The servers was so kind, attentive and hard working. I highly recommend the spider roll and the I Love You roll. They are the specialty rolls at the back of ... the menu and they are for sure the best bang for your buck! Read more
Twenty plus years ago I visited Furusato. It was the spot for sushi, I even drove once from Calgary to Edmonton and dining at Furusato was the highlight of the trip. Fast forward two decades, I brought my kids to enjoy the same sushi restaurant I enjoyed so much. ... The reviews were great and they got 4.5 stars according to Google. The only thing that seemed to remain the same was the decorations from 20 years ago. The ownership was changed, the place was less busy (Sat night). The seafood portion was good for the price, the major downfall was that the sushi rice was not seasoned with vinegar for the nigiri and the chirashi don. I was surprised most of the google reviews gave them a 5 stars despite this short coming. Other than that, the service was great and prompt. They even threw in a deep fried salmon head for free. This restaurant has easily become one of my favorites on Whyte Ave. The atmosphere inside is amazing, with traditional Japanese paintings, geisha dolls, and Japanese instrumental music playing. The food is amazing. The flavours are balanced, and the plating is simple yet elevated. Some recommendations for me include the takoyaki, as ... well as the dragon eye roll. The tempura is a classic choice, and it's very good. All the portion sizes are large, and the prices are very reasonable. I frequently order extra here to make sure that I can take leftovers home! I am so glad I discovered this restaurant, and I hope to visit many more times! Read more
