Chocolate Exquisite - Edmonton, Alberta

I went there around Valentines Day and had a okay experience. Their chocolate is good and interesting, but the service by the nicotine smelling holey sweater wearing guy is off putting. I'm almost sure that when the store isn't busy the guy goes to a bar because ... after I showed up one day there was a note about emergency delivery of gelato which was 3 hours ago. One of the best chocolatiers in Edmonton, bar none. Dennis Yurkiwsky loves his work crafting truffles and bringing fine single origin chocolates to the city, and you can easily tell both from the quality of his products and from talking to him personally (and he's easily accessible - he ... mans the counter himself most days). This place is his retirement project, and he does it for love and not money. The truffles are always delicious, and new flavours are regularly presented to keep things interesting (garlic and onion chocolate sounds vile, but turned out to be remarkably good!) One of the best features of this place is the wide array of single origin chocolates of varying cacao percentages. Prior to patronizing his shop, I had no idea that chocolate flavours varied so widely from plantation to plantation and across bean varieties - much like grapes for wine. Dennis also makes the best gelato I've ever had... I'm completely spoiled for chain gelato places now, much less store bought! The bacio (chocolate hazelnut) is awesome, and Dennis enjoys dabbling with many different flavourings (merlot was surprisingly tasty). I'd recommend Chocolate Exquisite to anyone looking for high end truffles, straight chocolate and gelato over any other chocolatier or frozen dessert place in the city. Read more

I went to go to Chocolate exquisite today after for desert. Walking up to the place I noticed it looked closed. As I approached the building I notice a sign on the door saying they are open until 7pm. I try to open the door to my amazement it was ... locked... at 6pm. I can understand being closed 15, even 30, minutes early, but an hour is just ridiculous. Read more
