Blue Willow - Edmonton, Alberta

A group of us ( 5) enjoyed the most delicious meal at the Blue Willow last evening. We loved every dish; I even enjoyed the lemon chicken which I never usually order. The meal arrived within minutes of ordering; the waiters were gracious. Something that I ... had never seen before at any of the numerous Chinese restaurants - the various menu items were served in pots with burners under them! No matter how many times the lids were lifted throughout the course of the meal, the food items remained hot. Some of you may know this about the Blue Willow already, but it is worth mentioning again; the Blue Willow restaurant is among the oldest eating establishments in Edmonton, 70 years and counting. That alone would distinguish any restaurant, however, the Blue Willow is owned and operated by members of the same family that opened the original location on Jasper Avenue some 70 years ago! Most amazing food and service! Very large portions! Extremely tasty! Favourite place of Wayne Gretsky (see the pics in the hallway! Delish! My parents and I ordered the green onion cake, spring rolls, beef/broccoli, lemon chicken, pork fried rice and wontons. Holy was everything wonderful! The Lingnan is more expensive, and I would argue the Blue Willow is better than said competition. My only complaint is the 2 different entrances. One ... is a delivery door and one is a dining hall. Recently, my family decided to celebrate our grandmother’s birthday here. We all ordered the dinner for eight. The service was excellent - the servers were kind, friendly and overall made the experience ten times as satisfying. The servers even served us cake that our family previously bought for ... our grandmother’s birthday. The food was fresh and delicious. The food excellently satisfied all of my family’s Chinese food cravings. Blue Willow had enhanced all of my family’s, especially my grandmother’s, experience of dinning in. Read more

Well we started out going to the Lingnan but we were turned away because we didn’t have a reservation so what to do.. Thought let’s give the Blue Willow a go. Haven’t been there in a long long time. Well we were in for a treat. Very distinctively flavourful dishes. ... We tried the ginger beef, boneless pork & veggies, shrimp, special fried rice, special egg foo yung & the gai lan.
