Beijing House Buffet - Edmonton, Alberta

So I came to this restaurant some time ago after they 1st opened and I was impressed. Today I had the opertunitity to visit again:( The building is nice and the buffet presentation looked good. Beautiful restaurant in a business-opportune location, sandwiched between two busy roads. Can't go wrong there. The staff are friendly and bubbly, service is quick and efficient. The warm decor with traditional Chinese artwork surrounding the dining room is a wonderful touch. Don't let me forget about the food. The green ... onion cakes were the perfect balance between crispy and chewy. The orange chicken was to-die-for, its sauce had the perfect zesty tang. Chicken balls were tasty and moist, not dry like other places you can get them. I will be back in the future and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who considers it. All you can eat Chinese food in North Edmonton. Food was fresh and warm. They refilled the foods as soon as the trays were empty. The best part is they have soft serve ice cream for dessert!

The service was great. The waitresses were kind and quick to give me my drinks and bill when I asked for it. And the restaurant is clean and spacious. Unfortunately, that’s the only positive thing I can actually say about the place. My experience with the food was awful. It wins the ... prize for the worst Chinese food I’ve tasted. The quality is much less than what you’d expect from a Chinese restaurant at the food court. We came to the restaurant hungry, yet even hunger couldn’t make many of the dishes taste good. I spent 5-10 minutes in the restaurant before I decided to eat somewhere else. The wonton dumplings were bland. The ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, and orange chicken were between warm and room temperature. The meat in these dishes were scarce and dry. It was mainly breading that I got to consume from these dishes. And it was all soggy. The deep fried shrimp was doughy and I felt that the dough on the inside wasn’t completely cooked. The Shanghai noodles were tasteless. The BBQ pork was okay. The spicy pork was extremely greasy. And the lemon and berry tarts I had for desert were okay. It tastes like just any other tarts you’d buy from a store. The bottom line: I couldn’t finish my plate. I tried giving many of the staple options a try and was left disappointed. Save your money. First time eating here. The buffet was delicious! So many different flavours and so fresh. The service was superb with super friendly staff. I will return. Unfortunately I didn’t take a good pic. Next time 👍🏼
