My first time coming here was a year ago, and I came back this past weekend to celebrate my anniversary because we remembered it being such a lovely food and date experience. It's funny because this place is a little hole in the wall, just off Whyte. You'd never notice it ... if you really weren't looking for it! It feels like a home turned into a restaurant. Everything is mis-matched - eclectic with old and new-age inspirations - but cozy and feels "lived-in" like the place you grew up in. Last night my boyfriend's drink of choice was the Brewvardier. It came in a cute little tea cup (read the explanation on the menu haha!) I had a sip and it was quite strong for my taste, but he seemed to enjoy it, as a person with a more mature taste to a range of hard liquors. I had water. Boring, I know, but boy did I need it. For dinner we shared 5 items: 1. Smoked Olives. I've never had smoked olives before! It was a little too salty to be eaten alone, but I can definitely appreciate the classiness of this dish. A cute add to our order! 2. Pork and Chicken Liver Bomb. We had this last year and couldn't go without having it again. It was amazing. Probably the best dish on the menu! I remember how amazing it tasted and I'm happy to report that they have definitely perfected this dish. Hands down, 5 stars. Hot on the inside, crispy shell on the outside, and just the right amount of honey mustard. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! 3. Filipino Pork Bun. Being Filipino, I feel like I can be more critical of this dish - 2 and a half stars, sorry. It was warm and freshly made, but unfortunately it was way too salty. The act of putting ground meat and potatoes inside a bun is definitely what makes it "Filipino", but the bun wasn't quite right. It should've been softer, and a tad sweeter, and the mayonnaise shouldn't come with the dish. That must've been their Western spin and a helping for a dry bun. Meh. 4. Braised Beef Chuck Flat. Yes, yes, yes! Do NOT come here without ordering this dish! The beef was amazing! Tender and cooked well.. Plus the greens, and beets in all their forms were excellent! The only thing I wasn't a big fan of were the oats. It didn't take away from the dish but it definitely could've gone without it. And plus, it's like giving seniors food to a grown man, and feeding pigeons instead of swans, you know what I mean? Anyway, 5 stars on this dish! Excellent! 5. 8oz Pork Loin Chop. Probably the most disappointing of them all. This dish was much too busy. Too sweet with all of the maple butter sauce, the pistachios were drenched, the brussel sprouts no longer tasted like brussel sprouts and the pear slices were too big, and again all too sweet. It really is too bad because the meat looked like it was cooked well, but it was difficult to enjoy. We chowed down on it because it's an expensive dish, but unfortunately we would not get it again (or recommend it). Last year this place would've been a close 5 stars, but this year just wasn't the same. The wait times were long, the server's knowledge of the dishes were lacking, and it just didn't do it for us this year. Funny because for such a lovely setting, they play pretty hardcore rap music (don't get us wrong, we love rap music and we were even singing to some of them) but a bit off on the setting tonight. It's kind of like when your annoying little brother is playing his music too loud in his bedroom when you're trying to talk to your friends on the phone. Yes, like that. Who knows though, maybe I'll come back next year and try again. Read more
Awesome staff, good food, amazing cocktails. Menu changes frequently, highlighting seasonality. Sat upstairs and loved the atmosphere - intimate but lively, and great deco amplifying the theme of the restaurant. Food highlights were the Panzenella salad and PB&J wings! A couple dishes, the pork pancake in particular, were a little heavy. Great ... night, highly recommend. Grab a group of friends or a date and get ready to share! Read more
The food was delicious!! We tried the charcuterie board and bread, endive salad, hot sauce Korea wings, brussel sprouts, the pork and chicken liver bomb. All so good! The only thing that wasn't that good were the cabbage rolls. I guess I was the traditional tomato sauce cabbage rolls. Everything ... else I would order again. The food is more for sharing be cause of the smaller plates. I enjoyed it and would recommend Three Boars Eatery to anyone!! Happy hour is from 5pm to 6pm!! Read more
