Sadly, the place where I grow up have been closed forever now, Austin was the only fish and chips that I go to. Now, I have to drive all the way to Pitt meadow to have Austin’s. Austin Fish and Chips has served Coquitlam for over 35 years, and it is sad to see another longtime small business close. Under the previous owners, this location was known for its exceptional customer service and dining experience, with sociable and skilled servers, and high-quality food: qualities that are becoming increasingly ... rare. The restaurant's fish and chips were exceptional, and over the decades they built a reputation that rivaled many restaurants in White Rock and local restaurants like C-Lovers. They were cooking in a very English style, with chips (fries) and mushy peas as options, reminiscent of a coastal English Chip Shop with a kitschy marine aesthetic and with bright teal neon lights. Large portions of fish: not too oily, very crisp high quality and big clean flavour. Served with lemon, tartar, and malt vinegar and ketchup. This was one of the best restaurants in the Austin Heights, South Coquitlam / Coquitlam since the 1980s. Sadly, Austin Fish & Chips was sold around nine months ago, and the experience changed under the new owners and the old staff were let go, and the winning magic was lost. Today, June 7th, 2024 was the last day before it changes into to a new restaurant. Pretty okay fish and chips got pretty good deal too if you come here for lunch time. The fish was not too bad. The chips was so so. The chowder was the better one. Cheers!

Huge portions of fish and chips for the price they are at! The batter was delicious, nice and crunchy. The fish Came out steaming hot! Almost burnt my mouth on it because it was so fresh! This was my first time coming and we showed up 55 minutes before closing (closes ... at 8) and we asked to dine in if that was ok. They hesitated and then said “actually we stop serving dine in at 7:30 but it’s ok this time”. I said oh ok thank you I really appreciate it. And sat at our table. It was just a little surprising that they were about to deny us dine in 50 minutes before close. All of the servers were very friendly. I loved that the front receptionist knew customers names and orders for pick up when they came in! That makes me feel good that they put effort into their customers.
