Cactus Club Cafe - Coquitlam, British Columbia

Typical cactus club. Decent service, upbeat vibe and good food. Warm Summer dinners are ALWAYS busy so reservations are highly recommended - even on a Tuesday. Poke bowl was super yummy.

I went here with my partner for my 32nd birthday! Right from the start, we were greeted warmly and I was excited to tell them it was my birthday and they were happy to have us! Our server was very attentive and kept checking on us regularly! We started off ... with the Avocado Dip which had incredible flavour plus the added lime finished it off and I actually liked the pico de gallo (I don’t like it usually). I had the Taste of The Tri-Cities taster menu for my main with the Zen Roll (which is one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had), the Steak Frites (the kale salad was refreshing and steak was cooked perfectly and very well seasoned). My partner had the Grilled Dijon Salmon which was my favourite dish of the night! The soy-Dijon butter sauce was delicious and the cut of steelhead was cooked beautifully (I was tempted to trade the rest of my steak for her salmon). I took the Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bar home with me as well as complimentary New York Cheesecake. We love coming here and this visit was a very memorable one. Came here for the ‘taste of the tri cities’ menu. It’s the same menu that was presented in Vancouver for dine out. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. The chicken and pickles super oily. The steak frites, requested medium rare were cooked unevenly and partially burnt on the outside. There was ... four of us. One upgraded to a filet, the filet was smaller than the rest of our steaks and costed and additional 15$. We ordered the same menu at the Byrne location and they did it 100% better. I do not recommend this location. Hope they reevaluate when sending out food. My steak was pretty burnt on one side I would have never sent it out. In the photo of the four steak frites. I got a seat at the patio, which had a cheery ambience. The place was quite packed as it was a weekend. I have Celiac & also prefer vegetarian, so I ordered :- - Drink(spirit free) : Soul Revival , it was quite refreshing with flavours of mint & lemon. - Dish : ... Med bowl, with less kale , extra rice & no olives. It was decently well. - Truffle fries (on the go) - & vanilla ice cream : I always love their silky rich ice-cream. We tried the Vancouver Dining Out 3 course meal, $45/EA and ordered another salmon belly sushi. Ravioli shrimp & fried chicken were the set appetizers that we chose, the ravioli was amazing but the chicken batter was too thick and hard compared to the ones I had at other Cactus ... Club. I chose steak while my husband got the Creole chicken, both were great, but my husband thought the asparagus was a bit overcooked. There were only 2 options for dessert so we ordered both, cream cheese and chocolate bar, well, we didn't like either of them. In general, the quality met the expectation at the pricing. The kids at another table were too noisy but well, what can they do about it? I wish the light was brighter, it was too dark in the restaurant. Read more
