Hing Wah - Carleton Place, Ontario

I am a relatively new resident of Carleton Place & have had at least three meals (all the same meal) from this establishment & they were all excellent. However my last meal had a lot to be desired. First: the Singapore noodles did not have as many vegetables as others I've had ... (ie: peppers, onions, carrots) what looked like, was just bean sprouts. It may have had celery cut lengthwise rather than on the bias too but I wasn't sure. The day after I fried up & added my own vegetables to the leftovers & this supplied a little more flavour. Second: after reading other reviews, a patron mentioned that he had had many many servings of Jar Doo chicken wings & would have many more. I thought I'd give them a try & as it turned out, they were just deep fried battered wings marinated & made fresh. I couldn't detect any taste of garlic or ginger or gin. I've been eating Chinese food at the Hing Wah for about 20 years at this point.... we could still smoke in the restaurant when I first started. Well long gone are the days of smoking indoors, but the Hing Wah is still here making the best Chinese food in ... Lanark / Beckwith. I have probably eaten 10 thousand Jah-do chicken wings here by this point, and I can guarantee you I will eat many more! Quiet place to eat great Chinese food! Read more

I’ve now eaten at all four Chinese restaurants in Carleton Place. This was the only place where as takeout / delivery, the crispy things were still crispy! In particular, we loved the crispy beef. Really good dish! The beef lo mein was extremely bland, but the noodles were cooked very ... well and so eating it with the crispy beef made it very tasty. Definitely a great choice. Read more

Was pleasantly surprised with most of the dishes. Great waitress. Egg rolls were terrible on the inside so that's why they got a 4. Would recommend as it's the best in the whole area since Sky Dragon in Perth changed ownership.

We wish no struggling business ill but we will not return and recommend that you try a different establishment to avoid disappointment. We went on Sat night at prime dinner time. Almost no customers. Bins were all virtually empty presumably to save money. Most were added to after ... we and one of the only 3 other people asked where the food was. I did like the Gen'l Tao chicken and there was a nice little bit of heat to several dishes. My companion who eats lots of Chinese though could find nothing he liked the taste of. Consensus the egg rolls were worst ever and were put down after a single bite. Spring rolls untested. Another thing like a sausage roll was unpleasant but unlike the egg roll could be swallowed. EXTREMELY expensive given lack of quantity or quality. Recommend you try one of the 3 other nice looking Chinese restaurants in town or the Indian place up the road instead. Read more
