Law & Orders - Carleton Place, Ontario

So, I tried Rhippo Challenge ( 2, 1lb Rhippo burgers and 1lb of poutine). "Ultimately I failed and freely admit it". This place has amazing food and I'm glad I didn't overeat to get my mind to not enjoy the food there again. However, the hostess that was timing ... me couldn't keep from discussing my progress with the kitchen staff in a negative gossipy way and in a way of no encouragement...I guess thinking like I couldn't hear her. Also, walking around and leering at me like she was a loss prevention officer in a department store like I was going to be shoplifting something. I get the process as you are watching there is no cheating, but I was sitting in a corner with no intention or item to do anything to cheat. This alone made me feel uncomfortable and decided to cut my challenge to atleast finish the burgers to not waste great food. I hadn't touched the poutine and took it to go. Walking to the car I thought the poutine was kind of heavy and was only in a light cardboard container. When I got home, I weighed the poutine, and it was heavier then both burgers at over 2.5 lbs...almost 3 lbs, when it clearly stated it was to be 1lb. I'm not saying I would have done it but if it is to be 1lb then that's what it should have been. My review is based on this challenge (not the food which is a 5) but to the one staff member who made me feel uncomfortable and the deception of the actual poutine weight being the determining score. Being the challenge is 50$ it would have been good to have been weighted accurately and not setting me up to fail...but I did lol. Read more

I had heard about the killer burgers and fries at Law & Orders and when I was on the trans Canada headed to Ottawa I decided to do a u turn and stop in for a bit... wow! Quick service, Bacon Cheese burger like homemade and fries I haven't had ... for ever! The lager was their own and delicious. Make a trip! Read more

Another disappointment. We have ordered take out over the phone or through their online service . Have NEVER received a correct order. There is always missing toppings. The orders are simple with no substitution. Chicken bacon ranch wrap for instance, why would you send this out with no bacon ... on it? Instead have next to no meat and pack the thing with lettuce. Another time paid extra for grilled chicken. Clearly stated on order. Get home and it's deep fried chicken strips. What is going on in the back there? Don't expect to get what you paid for. I should not have been able to eat lunch on a patio at the end of February, but was glad it could be here. I've found Law and Orders to be consistent in quality across several locations and really enjoy the Law Burger. I'm a sucker for anything with a fried ... egg on it. Read more

Got there around 40 minutes before closing and ordered the hickory burger and mama dog for my son. We upgraded to poutines (+$3 each) and I upgraded my burger to 1/2 lb (+5.25). Total was $44…. Not cheap but I’m willing to pay for quality. Wait was a bit on ... the long side at 25 minutes. Not the end of the world as they had a few orders on the go and good things usually come with a wait. Unfortunately, our poutines were tepid, fries weren’t fresh and even the gravy was warmish but not hot. This def took away from the flavour. It’s one of those things that at their price point for burgers - where you question if you can afford it - they can’t afford to cut corners. Interesting fact, their combos are basically the same price as if you added up individual items (no biggie, but no deal). It pained me to rank them so low given that I have had good meals here and not saying I won’t be back, but I will think twice. Read more
