Blackshop! - Cambridge, Ontario

A wonderful birthday treat a few weeks ago. Service was excellent. We were seated at a table in the middle of the room, which isn't a favorite of mine but we didn't have to yell to speak to each other. The steak was cooked perfectly but I can't give five stars ... because of how much onion was with the summer vegetables. Other than that, a delicious treat. Expect to spend roughly $75 a person to share an appetizer, a main course and a drink. Worth it though for special occasions. Read more

We received excellent service for our first time at this restaurant. I understand that it is a Cambridge staple but we had never been. We enjoyed the king trumpet mushrooms, and the calamari. I was surprised that the mushrooms were fried, so it felt like maybe we ordered too much ... of this for an appetizer but very generous portions. We also ordered the 12oz ribeye, and the Chef generously split the plate in half for us since we were going to share. We ended with the sticky toffee putting dessert and it was awesome. My sister and I came for a girls night out. We each ordered the 5-course tasting menu. Each course was timed out perfectly and food was outstanding. Our meal got better as each new course arrived. I am still unsure which course was my favourite because the flavour profiles were ... all so unique. The chef came out to speak with us three times during the meal. Chef Dennis is an amazing new addition to the Blackshop team. Our server Katie was incredibly attentive. You would never have known that there were three large parties going on in the restaurant. We were served by Michelle! An amazing lovely person who made our one day trip extra ordinary with the awesome service and great suggestions of where to visit in the town. Brunch was quiet on this day, but it had definitely filled up quite a bit by the time we left. Beautiful restaurant with ample seating and parking . Our reservation was for the first seating; when it opened. Truth be told, we likely didn’t need reservations for this hour of the ... day, but it’s always prudent to do so. We were seated right in front of the gorgeous stately fireplace which was going strong already. It releases a fair amount of heat, so it may not be the best seat in the house for everyone! Our order was taken quickly and our drinks served without delay. Our food was delicious as were our desserts! It’s nearly impossible to pass on the sweet treats when visiting at the Blackshop.
