went to the royal oak branch. The food was good, we ordered a tempura shrimp, wonton soup with egg noodles and a chicken pho. The order came quite quickly. We had only tried vietnamese food once years back, so my husband in order to make the food taste less ... bland, added a whole lot of chilli oil into it and then almost choked on his food.lol. The only thing that felt odd to me (and the reason I haven't given 5 stars) is the service by our waitress. She was polite but seemed quite rushed. As soon as we sat down, she came to get our order, like in a minute. Even though we hadn't discussed, we still said that we would start with the tempura shrimp and then order the mains a bit later. She said ok and then she was back again, 1 minute later to ask about the rest of our order. It was really weird. We were forced to place the rest of our order right then, while she was gazing down at us. And then, as soon we placed the order, she took away both menus not leaving us room to order anything else. Living in the south for years we were very loyal customers of Pho Hoan in Mahogany. Since moving to the north we have tried ordering from the Royal Oak location multiple times. We have only done take out or SKIP, and 1/2 our orders come inaccurate. the biggest issue we had was ... not getting a our XL soups when we order them through SKIP. So the one time I went to pick up. I ordered an XL soup and a regular soup, and they gave us the same portion for both. I pointed out to them that the cups of broth are exactly the same. So they took the XL one into the back, gave it 2 more ml of fluid and gave it back to me. So I mentioned when I order from Mahogany we get almost double the broth when we order an XL. One of the guys working there that was standing close by looked at me and said "This is Mahogany, this is Royal Oak" and then just stared at me. We like the taste of the food here, but don't order extra's, and double check everything before heading out. If we hadn't been to a location that is so much better this place would seem OK. But these guys are the low bar standard of this franchise. Edit: After having head office reach out and explain that XL only means they give a little more of something and not everything, and that they will be "correcting" Mahogany for providing value to their customers they have seen the last of me and my family. Real deal Vietnamese that was delicious fresh and flavourful. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with pork, chicken, prawn and spring roll. It was exactly what I was looking for. Restaurant was busy when I dined but service was attentive and quick. Definitely worth a return visit! Thanks
