Shinjuku Ramen Noodle Bar - Calgary, Alberta

We had ordered a bunch of stuff some of which we forgot to take pictures LOL my family of hungry beasts dug in before I could get the chance. But the food was amazing. I know they had recently changed the menu and added sushi...oh my melt in your mouth ... tuna hellz yes! Last time we were here I didn't love it but so glad we gave this place another chance because it's turned into quite a gem. In particular we loved the Tantanmen and original pork tonkatsu ramen. I have a picky 20 month old and she gobbled it up so fast. Glad I could give her something I could feel good about no MSG but still #flavorbomb The sashimi plate we ordered was to die for. Loved the hand rolls, pork belly chashu donburi bowl, spicy tuna crunch roll, dynamite roll, house special roll and rainbow roll. My husband and I are big foodies and we are definitely coming back...to order the rest of their new menu! Read more

Good food and friendly service. Parking can be tricky being downtown but on weekends there is 2-hr free parking on the street. Located in a commercial building it might be hard to find at first and a few stairs or ramp available up to the entrance. Menu is mainly ... ramen items with a few appetizers. Their best feature item is the chicken ramen. Ramen is house made and al dente. You’ll also get option of the finer ramen noodles or the regular thick ramen noodles. Or opt for GF option with rice noodle. You’ll also get 2 pieces of pork chasu. Broth is tasty and full of chicken flavour. Chasu is done well and not fatty. Service is friendly and laid back. We came here for a birthday dinner with the family. At first glance, the restaurant is pretty spacious, bright and nice large windows. There are tables that can accommodate larger groups and looks to be a great place for couples or individuals as well. The food was nicely presented. ... Ramen bowls were a good portion size and the flavours were pretty spot on. Char Siu was on point, soft and melty, and the soft boiled eggs were cooked exceptionally well. The shrimp tempura was also done very well, not dripping with grease as typical with some Japanese restaurants. The matcha soft serve is a must have and a perfect finish to the meal. Facilities are well kept and very clean. Service is also fast and friendly. Super friendly, especially to the kids. Parking isn't the best, street side only bit that is to be expected for a downtown establishment. Will definitely come back again. Read more

It was my birthday, and I wanted ramen, and I wanted to try something new, so we headed out to Shinjuku, smack dab in the middle of downtown Calgary. The nice thing about that, is that we literally had the entire place to ourselves for the first 10 minutes. Totally empty. We ... got our drinks and we weren't off to a great start, as they are 240ml glass bottle Coke products at the price you'd expect to pay for fountain with refills. We ordered chicken karaage and garlic edamame to start, and the garlic edamame were fantastic and super garlicky, exactly what we wanted. The karaage came with our choice of dipping sauce (sweet chili, teriyaki or tartar). We opted for sweet chili and it was exactly what you would expect. The chicken itself was super middle of the road but both appy portions were decent sizes for the price. I, naturally, opted for the tonkotsu black ramen with an extra soft boiled egg and corn. It was fairly middling all around. The broth could have been a lot richer, the chashu was underwhelming and tough, and the soft boiled eggs were a bit past my preferred state. My partner opted for the Tori paitan chicken ramen, and I was actually more impressed with it than I was the tonkotsu (which if you know me, is shocking as hell.) The broth is super flavourful and rich and really hit the spot on a chilly night like tonight. Her egg was also a bit overdone so it's a universal thing, apparently. All in all it was an average experience, though I'd suggest the Tori paitan ramen to push it slightly above average. All above came to $53 before tax and tip. Read more

One of the places I would visit again for ramen craving. The egg texture (soft boiled) was right for me, char siu pork was really tasty and soft. The broth was just right, but I added sesame and garlic paste for more flavor. The service was excellent, considerate, and took the ... effort to explain the ingredients which was new to me. I also ordered cold soy coffee with jelly and I recommend that too for a unique flavor. Also the green tea ice cream gave me a nice sugary end. Read more
