Ookini - Calgary, Alberta

Update July 2017: I've been here 3 times now and it keeps getting better! They have a new menu which now includes Pork Belly in the Tonkotsu Ramen! It is much better than the first time I visited, but the pork is still not as good as the very best ... in Calgary. The location is convenient, prices are fair, and the broth is excellent so I will be back! I had Tonkotsu black and it was very good overall. Broth flavour was excellent, but the noodles were tough and I am not a fan of their pork shoulder. They don't have tender pork belly, only pork shoulder which was a bit dry and not very flavourful. The price is a little higher. However, the noodle is good. Also the Pork that came with the soup noodle, was very yummy. The curry chicken was excellent.

Such a cute place! Great for a date. Gyoza were perfectly cooked but the sauce wasn't the best. The Seaweed salad was really good. The ramen was a little small but very good. Had green tea mochi for dessert and it left the meal on a bad note. The mochi ... was over frozen and hard, not soft and yum. Read more

Absolutely love the food here. And the tea selection is unique / authentic. Lovely service. Again - the ramen is best in the city.

I came with 2 friends and we ordered the pork buns and chicken karage for appetizers. They were pretty good but the buns looked better then they tasted. Had the ookini ramen and ookini black ramen for the mains. They have good service and broth was good but the ramen ... was definitely not good. The noodles taste more like overcooked egg noodles. They were soft, squishy and slimy. We were all very disappointed as the noodles ruined the broth. Read more
