Tokachi Japanese Restaurant - Calgary, Alberta

This was our first time dining at this restaurant, and we left extremely unhappy because of the poor service and the staff's attitude. Although the food was great, we had to wait at least 45 minutes before everything was served. When it came time to pay the bill, we decided ... to split it in half since some of us were paying with cash and others with cards. We actually gave a tip of 15% of our total bill when we paid. However, when my relatives were paying, I told them not to leave a tip because we had already given one. But the server/manager insisted they leave at least a 10% tip on their bill. We found this to be very rude and unprofessional. I understand that tipping is a gesture of appreciation for excellent customer service, but it should not be mandatory or forced upon customers. It was the first time we had experienced this, and it left a bad taste in our mouths. Despite this, we still left a tip, but instead of being grateful, the staff showed a bad attitude towards us. The restaurant sets up high expectations with it's location, however the ramen that we ate was average what is very disappointing. The soup base is not rich in flavour, but katsu tasted good.

This is the restaurant that I visit most of my life in Calgary!!! Cozy, staff friendly, reasonable price and tasty! Would recommend to come at 2-5pm cos’ happy hour for sushi, sashimi & roll!!! Just $1.50/pc and 3 or 4.50 /roll (1 roll comes with 6 pcs) Lunch time quite very busy ... here, go with chicken katsu/pork katsu ramen will be the fastest choice. Lunch box is good choice, big quantity , good quality in reasonable price. Lunch time special is great! Lots of variety on the menu. Sushi tasted great. Tables were a little dirty, overall pretty good experience.

What a wonderful experience and amazing food! Our server was Moon who was extraordinary and very on point with great customer service. For the meal we did the Dinner for two with soup and salad to start, followed with coconut shrimp and gyoza for appetizers, which was all amazing.
