I had an extremely disappointing experience at this Indian restaurant. The food was incredibly bland, and the cleanliness of the restaurant was appalling. The plates and glasses were dirty, which is unacceptable. We ended up leaving our food and going elsewhere, but we were still charged the full price for ... inedible food. Unfortunately I don't have any photos, but I've been a customer of Clay Oven since it opened (I believe in the late 90s), and the food is always outstanding. We have never once had a poor experience and it's my family's go-to Indian restaurant in Calgary. We have eaten there ... for dine-in, take-out and the buffet. The service is attentive, and the restaurant atmosphere is welcoming and appealing. They will customize the meal to your desired spice level. Service was a little slow and they were stepping on each others toes. Two waitresses but they don’t have their own tables. They are polite but it is sometimes too much when you are checking every 3-5 minutes on a table that is eating after the initial check.

It was my birthday yesterday so my husband booked a table for the family to celebrate. I was happy and excited to try out food at this place. We went there and a girl came over to welcome and showed us the table. Then we ordered the drinks and starters. I ... was shocked to see that nobody got us any water , I joined my family for dinner after work. We got the starters and still no sign of water 💦. Then after we done almost half of the starters, she realized and got the water. Then we were all done with our food and got the drinks finally. I felt bad that no drinks and appetizers were finished. Mango lassi was very sour and had kind of a bad smell. Then we decided to leave after the appetizers. The girl didn’t even pay attention that why you decided to leave without main course. I would say that leaving this place in time was a wise decision to celebrate my birthday and end up my day happily. Let me first say that everything we had was great. We ate as vegetarians for this meal and it was delightful. The food was richly seasoned as indian food should be. Not as spicy as I would prefer but they brought us some of their in house hot sauce. Made everything ... perfect. The service wasn't great. It was very busy and they only had one server running the whole floor. Later we found out that the other person called in sick. We tipped her well as she did her best. Overall, I would recommend.
