Reviews for Alforno Bakery & Cafe in Calgary, Alberta
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me 5x, shame on me. Having lived next door to Alforno since they opened, we have tried to enjoy it on multiple occasions over the years. Tonight was the last straw, I give up! We ordered the Thursday pizza special ($25 for a ... pizza and house wine) and the feature soup (dill pickle, $16 for a large bowl). Our food took just under 40mins to arrive, which was surprising. Restaurant was maybe 3/4 full, but not busy (ie. most other tables seemed to be wrapping up or were just grabbing desserts). Maybe a long line for the pizza oven, who knows. We got a cursory "your food is 5mins away" from the supervisor at some point. When it finally arrived, the pizza was a soggy, inedible mess. The soup came with a small dry piece of toast and tasted like warm watered down milk with a few carrots. No substance, no flavour, nothing to warrant a price of $16 or even close. Small portions, awkward/disinterested/rude service, and disappointing meals have been our experience over the years. We expressed our frustrations to the supervisor tonight, who refunded us for our meal, which we did appreciate. I'm not sure where the disconnect is at Alforno. We have had wonderful experiences at other Teatro locations and consider them some of our favourite restaurants (EAT, Cucina, Teatro); the quality of the food always matches the price, service is friendly and enthusiastic. Not the case at Alforno. Read more
This is a fantastic little coffee shop that offers top notch desserts, breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner options. The location is great for its proximity to the Bow River. Fantastic for a brunch date on a sunny day. Unfortunately you can't order from the lunch menu until after 3pm. I thought ... this was kind of weird. Read more
I had afternoon tea at Alforno’s and really enjoyed my experience. The waiter was friendly and nice. He made sure everything was perfect. The food and dessert tasted nice. I really liked the lemon meringue tart. The tea selection was also lovely. Great start to spring🫖☕️
Alforno Bakery and Cafe offers a delightful experience nestled within a stunning building adorned with a variety of table sizes, perfect for both social gatherings and solo work sessions. The abundance of natural light enhances the ambiance, creating an inviting atmosphere. The diligent staff ensures cleanliness, promptly attending to tables ... as guests leave. My friend and I indulged in their cappuccino and caramel latte, both satisfying choices. However, for those with a sweet tooth, a flavor shot of caramel in the cappuccino would be a delightful addition. The carrot cake stole the show with its delicious cream cheese frosting, complementing the coffee perfectly. The presence of a fireplace adds a cozy touch, ideal for focused working. While the parking spots nearby are limited, the culinary delights offered, including the mouthwatering margherita pizza, make Alforno Bakery and Cafe a worthwhile destination. The harmonious blend of ambiance, service, and culinary offerings ensures a memorable experience, leaving patrons eager to return. Read more
I visited a bakery with friends on Canada Day. Although it’s a bakery, it feels more like a restaurant with table service. We wanted to try everything on the menu, but we ended up ordering some delicious-looking cakes, and we were very satisfied. I especially recommend the cheesecake and tart! ... The server was incredibly friendly, and we had a wonderful time in the lovely café atmosphere with friends. Read more
