Two Penny Chinese - Calgary, Alberta

We went on new year's eve. Foods are absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable. We loved the environment. The only complaint is that it's a bit too dark. I couldn't see the menu without shining on it with my phone. lol. Will definitely recommend this to my friends. :)

This place may be a hit or miss for some, but this one is a big hit on me; despite the price to food portion ratio. All of the food menu items I ordered were just right for me, but it may be too salty for some. I highly recommend ... their Mapo Tofu & Char Siu Pork (lots of meat inside). Update: April, 2019 had a change in their menu and tried the beef Curry fried rice and it was just the right season and overall taste and texture. It is similar to a Biryani for me. The atmosphere and decorations were definitely my type, modernized tradition while maintaining key elements to remind you of China. I would go back again to try other menu items. Read more

The place is quite nice and the service is great. The food is creative and well thought out. There was only two issues that made things awkward if anything. One was... when our party of two asked for a 4 people table because we told the server we would be ... ordering lots of food.... she hesitate and froze. Said nothing until We offered (jokingly) that if it is a problem we can be seated wherever you like. She chose to wedge us with all the other people were instead of spacing out the guests. The Restaurant was EMPTY... it wasn't an availability issue. The second issue was... the food was very salty. Everything was heavily seasoned. I loved how it felt upscale and fancy without having to assume we needed to be extra dressed up. The food is definitely top quality, the decor and high ceilings make it so special. The staff were so approachable. I felt comfortable here :) Everyone was super pleasant and laid ... back, taking extra detail to make sure we had everything we needed! I'm really mixed in the overall rating, but I decided to give 4 stars since the service was so great. I did wait at the front for about 1 minute while nobody greeted me, but it was around 2pm and they likely didn't have a host in duty. Once someone ... noticed me I had a great experience with all my questions answered and very sweet servers. The food, however, didn't wow me. I had Pork Shumai and Shanghai noodles, and they both tasted overwhelmingly like soy sauce and oyster sauce. Even the chili vinegar on the side was very salty. I'm sure they have dishes with more variety of flavours, but I must have been unlucky to have 2 dishes that were very salty. I did love the texture of everything, the noodles and vegetables were perfectly cooked and the chicken was tender. The interior design is amazing, such a beautiful space with lively atmosphere!
