My 11yr old son says, "wow! Best Chinese food we've ever had!" Sweet and sour pork was very good, as was the chicken fried rice, and the chicken curry was second-to-none-excellent. Very delicious. Asked to take it easy on the sauce, and everything was perfect. Not oily, but still flavourful and good selection of non-pork options. We had a large order for a birthday party. Golden Joy was the only NW Chinese restaurant open in the afternoon on a Sunday (that we could find online). We placed the order online and one of the owner's followed up with us to confirm. We got three FREE additional ... dishes for our order because of the size (though it only takes a $35 purchase to get a free dish). We collected our food, which was a little delayed due to the size of the order and GJ only having one cook on at the time. The food was great! Portions were large and one of the owner's called me later in the afternoon to follow up! This is a family-run restaurant with all the trappings of first-generation Canadians making their way in Calgary business. I highly recommend Golden Joy, especially for catered meals considering you can purchase food in large tins. Give it a shot and I doubt you'll be disappointed. Read more

Delicious with generous portions! I tried Golden Joy for the first time tonight, and was pleasantly surprised. The food quality was excellent with fresh taste and quality ingredients. The portions were bountiful. Something specific: I ordered Shrimp with Cashew Nuts and veggies as part of their Meal Deal Special. ... With other restaurants, this dish has tiny little shrimp. Not so here. The shrimp were huge, fresh and delicious. The wonton soup was terrific as well. Over 15 wontons in the order! This location has been plagued over the years with many failed businesses. Here's hoping Golden Joy can break that pattern with their great food and friendly staff. Read more
