Dragongate is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Calgary! The food is excellent, I really like going into the restaurant - the dishes are quite big, which means lots of leftovers, and the staff are always so welcoming. Heavily overpriced for what you get. Went here a few weeks ago and I've been stewing about it since. I definitely appreciate, as much as anyone , paying a flat rate and loading up. But this place needs to implement some serious change if 2 people are going to spend almost $100 ... without any extras and just 1 pop. The music was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. The selection was so limited it all fit on literally one 12 ft table u could get options both sides... for a buffet that costs this much that is an embarrassing amount of choices. Not only that but every single dish except the ice cream was loaded with enough spice that you could never eat a real amount of this food if you tried. And that's if your gagging it down with ice cream to kill the spice.. that much spice does NOT need to go into every option available. Food was hot! But… the sugar was literally crystallized on the Cashew Chicken dish. It felt like I had candied cashews on top of my meal. The curry was good, but the vegetables were massive and still super crunchy/raw. Not what I was expecting for the price.

OK ... This is a super clean, super friendly place that serves the Western Style Chinese Food you grew up with. Ignore the native reviews, probably hipsters that think their to Cool for this sweet little Traditional Chinese Restaurant ... BTW there must have 10 locals come in for take ... out. One of those hidden gems. The restaurant is a little hard to see and not all that appealing from the outside, but the food and service are fabulous. We had the dinner for two-A and it could have fed four people. The veggies were cooked but crisp. Nothing soggy ... here. Lemon chicken delicious and not overbattered. Rice was fluffy.
