The Lake House - Calgary, Alberta

I recently visited Lake House on a Sunday night for our wedding anniversary, and while there were many highlights, a few aspects left room for improvement. The restaurant itself is beautiful and charming, with a special ambiance that makes you feel like you’re in a unique place. The view of the ... lake is stunning, and the location, though a bit far from downtown, is worth the drive. The cleanliness of the place and the professionalism of the staff were commendable. The food was excellent—delicious and delightful, even if the menu had limited options for dinner. However, our experience was marred by a few issues. We had an 8:30 pm reservation, and it felt like the staff was in a rush to close up for the night. While they didn’t do anything overtly wrong, the atmosphere suggested they were eager for us to leave. We chose the restaurant for its views, but the window coverings were drawn, blocking the view we had come for. When we asked for them to be opened, we were told it would bother other diners due to the sunset light. They did finally open the coverings about five minutes before we left, which was disappointing. Additionally, the service, while prompt, felt rushed. The food and drinks were brought out very quickly, giving the impression that we were being hurried along. Some of the glasses were not properly clean, and the table had noticeable spots, which seemed out of place for such a fancy restaurant. Overall, our experience at Lake House was mixed. Highly recommend for the experience. This is not normally what I would opt for on a regular day but as I was celebrating my birthday I decided to go a little bit fancier than usual. The atmosphere was really nice and the view was gorgeous even on a gloomy day. ... We went on a weeknight so it was pretty empty and quiet. Our server, Darcy, was amazing. Definitely request to have him to serve you if possible. He made amazing suggestions that we really enjoyed. I noticed that some time while we were eating he had gotten hurt so he disappeared for a little while but when he came back he was still as good as ever and didn’t let his injury bother his duties. We mentioned that my partner had a mushroom allergy and he was very diligent in making sure our food was free of mushrooms which is always greatly appreciated. Expensive but reasonable and the quality was good. Probably won’t be back any time soon but will be back in the future if the occasion permits. Read more

My wife and I had wanted to try the Lake House for a while, we finally decided to go last week and we were not disappointed. We had 3 cocktails, daily soup, lamb rack, ribeye steak and a dessert. Love the steak, ordered medium rare and it’s cooked ... just right. Personally I am not a lamb person, my wife made me tried a piece and I actually really like it. What a warm and welcoming restaurant. Lots of parking space as it's next to a small plaza also. Once checking in, they offer coat check. Made reservations and got brought to a great table. We were very warmly greeted by our server Darcy - one of the most amazing and nicest ... staff member . He is welcoming and as a regular waiter there, he knows all the ins and out of all foods. Filled with honesty (well respected) he provides enough time to letting you read the menu, ordering and asking whether you are ready for the next plate etc. Atmosphere - filled with warm light in antler decorated chandeliers and a large fireplace, you feel cozy. Everything is also wood based - rustic overall. Food - very good. Well plated and tasted amazing, which meant well flavoured without the need for extensive sauce, butter or salt being drizzled everywhere . Drinks were equally good - including an alcoholic to a non alcoholic drink offering. The night ended with complementary chocolates that had the perfect textured shell crisp and filling to make it subtly sweet. Many other things that I will need to try next time around. The meal was well worth the price tag attached to it with some little bits of leftover to spare. Read more
