99th Avenue Café - Calgary, Alberta

Very busy this morning, also short staffed, so difficult to grade this visit fairly. I always feel comfortable here. Staff are welcoming, quick with refills, and downright pleasant. I did not enjoy my meal, the fries had a distinct garlic flavour (from the oil), perhaps enjoyable to some, but I am allergic ... to garlic. Plus my 'filled' french toast was a tad on the dry side. The bread should be dipped entirely in egg then fried, but somehow my crusts escaped emersion in the mixture meaning I could only consume the centre portion of the sandwich. I blame this oversight on the busy kitchen today. If not for countless enjoyable visits to this eatery over the past few years, this lunch would probably have resulted in my last, but today I will give them a pass. What a little gem of a spot! Happened upon this cafe, and I'm so pleased I did. I take breakfast seriously (my favourite meal) and I can definitely say I was beyond surprised. The service was fast and attentive, and the meal was delicious. Nothing pretentious about it, just a ... flavorful meal. I had the eggs benny, side of sausage. The hashbrowns are homestyle potatoes and they are so good! Definitely drop in if you're looking for a great breakfast at a fair price. Read more

In January I realized I have been having breakfast at 99 Ave Cafe for exactly 30 years. I must admit I have never been here for anything except breakfasts and have to say I have never been disappointed. Their potatoes are legendary. ( all my friends talk about them) they ... are like mom used to make. And everything from basic breakfast to their Benny's are excellent. And when your meal is brought to you by someone as totally awesome as Lindsay, your day could not begin any better. Her personality and sense of humor along with her fantastic service make me glad I found this little restaurant 30 years ago, and am still here today. Overall it's not too bad! The food was delicious! I got the Lumberjack. The coffee? Not bad but overpriced. The service needs a bit of work. After we ordered we became invisible, waiting for our coffee to be refilled. Wasn't until we pushed our cups to the very edge of the ... table and let out a big sigh that someone noticed. After that they've been pretty consistent with the tables. Incredibly friendly though. I'd absolutely recommend this little breakfast joint and I'll be back for sure! Read more

Great little restaurant. Wide and varied menu. We had a late Breakfast or early "brunch". The service was great. Staff was wonderful. Food was excellent. Prices were on par for a great breakfast anywhere else in Calgary. $$ Atmosphere was great, tables are far enough apart you can ... have a conversation with good friends and not disturb anyone. ..I would recommend this restaurant.
