Koryo Korean BBQ - Calgary, Alberta

If I could give zero stars I would . But there is no rating for that . I use to love Korean bbq and first time I ate was at this mall itself only . It was like 10 years ago and it was really good . I was ... craving it for the longest time so I decided to give it a try again . I saw the food nugget trays were old , I could tell from the texture of spring rolls and noodles but I still went ahead and ordered myself a chicken platter with two sides . I didn’t like the food when I got it , it was old rice were soggy , chicken was over cooked no flavour to it and kimchi was old . I regret ordering it , wish I have never ordered it and the lady who worked at the front wasn’t even wearing a mask 😷. I just ended up throwing it out . I would highly recommend to look at the trays they have before ordering if it’s old then don’t order the food I see the owner is shutting down whoever is giving him/ her review looks like they take it personally and from what angle do rice looks fresh . I am never going back here . You should take the feedback . I m actually hurt and don’t expect this post coming from owner . Unbelievably good tasting food. 100% being honest. Some of the best tasting food I have eaten from a restaurant recently. The garlic potatoes, chicken, beef, Kimchi and rice. Everything tastes just so good. Tastes fresh and cooked so well. The front counter lady has great customer service and everything was ... exactly the way I wanted. I've been eating from this restaurant for many years and it was always a pleasure. However it seems to be new crew members with potentially new ownership. Last two visits I've been given rice from the day before and definitely expired potatoes. They also cut down on meat portions.

I have been eating Koryos for 20 years since the early 2000s. I have eaten it in almost all of the Calgary locations (including the defunct Deerfoot mall one). I have to say, this location by far has the best quality and taste. I have been to this location many ... times over the years, but due to COVID and me working from home, had not come here in over a year. I decided to stop by and recently possibly under new ownership, there is a renaissance of it as I had mixed experiences before. Now, the customer service was amazing by a very nice lady at the till and the fellow at the BBQ station. Everything was perfect. The garlic potatoes, Kimchi, pasta salad, BBQ chicken and beef marinated and BBQ'ed to perfection. It had the right amount of charring and flavor. Although friendly, the new management serves much less food for the same price, and much slower. This particular Koryo franchise is delivering under-par.
