Newcastle Pub - Calgary, Alberta

When I arrived at New Castle Pub, I didn't feel welcomed at all. The server seemed annoyed when I asked for help finding a seat next to my friends so we could watch the game without obstructing anyone. Despite their reluctance, I luckily got a seat because a couple next ... to my friends left. I ordered beer and wings, but the wings came out lukewarm, which was disappointing because they could have been good if served hot. It was a nice day, but sitting next to the busy 17th Ave meant dealing with a lot of vehicle dust, noise, and unpleasant sewer smells. Additionally, I noticed that their glassware was dirty. The pub was busy, so I chose not to complain. However, the overall experience was quite different from my previous visits a year ago when the service was friendly. This time, even the manager was rude & unprofessional and made my friends feel very uncomfortable. To make matters worse, they only had two pay machines for the entire place, which slowed down the service considerably. We had to wait a while to pay, although our server did her best to be quick. Wanted to go here for sometime as my partner is from Newcastle! Finally visited with couple of friends. Great atmosphere, busy. Had shandy and it was great. My partner had oxford burger and I had spring special, which was grilled salmon with pilaf rice with some hollandaise sauce. It was divine, Great service. ... Definitely will go back again! Came for wing night on Wednesday, good service and food came out quickly. The music is a bit loud though.

Stoped in for a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed some great customer service. Sure is nice having attentive prompt service. The food was delicious with large portions. Wor Wonton soup and American Werewolf burger. Looking forward to the next visit!

Great vibe and food. Happy hour is a great deal! My husband visits for a quick beer and bite all the time but last night we had a meal. I ordered the Cobb salad and it was fabulous. Nice light vinaigrette vs everyone else’s ranch. Great neighborhood pub!
