Browns Socialhouse - Calgary, Alberta

My friend and I have been coming to this location almost monthly for the last two years. We've always enjoyed the food, the atmosphere and the service. Tonight we had a pretty negative experience- it seems as though management or ownership has recently changed because the food was not nearly ... as good and the service was poor. We always arrive before 6pm to get the reduced price appetizers. When we were charged the full appetizer price, we raised it with our server, who said we should have made it clear that we were ordering from the 'appy hour' menu. I told her we have never had that problem in the past- and we only ever order it because once the server points out the 'appy' menu and we proceed to order- it is self-evident. Despite explaining to her we are regular patrons, she did not offer to change our bills- instead she repeatedly explained to us that if we were 'upset' we ought to make our order 'more clear in the future'. Our experience at Browns was extremely disappointing. We were ignored for most of the night and wanted to order more food and drinks, but couldn’t get any attention from the staff. Instead of working, most of the staff we saw were on their phones or gossiping in the expo area. Our ... food was not prepared as we had ordered, and our server never checked on us. No other staff member or manager came by to see how we were doing; if they had, we would have shared our frustrations. When it was time to pay, we mentioned that we had a gift card to cover part of the bill. Our server scoffed, slammed her hand on the table, and then proceeded to ignore us while attending to other tables. She clearly had an issue with us using a gift card and was not capable of handling the situation professionally. I am more disappointed in the management than anything else. If your staff is struggling, it’s your responsibility to step in and help. Instead, nothing was done, and we were left with a bad taste in our mouths about Browns. We have shared our experience with our friends and family and, though we have another gift card, we do not feel comfortable using it there after this experience. The food was satisfactory, but unfortunately, the ambience and service left much to be desired. Regrettably, I must express that this restaurant's environment and treatment were among the poorest I've encountered. It pains me to say this, but the discriminatory behavior I experienced here was deeply troubling. Upon entering, the ... first server who greeted me at the counter seemed to judge me based on my skin color. Furthermore, when I requested a high chair for my 14-month-old twins, the server disappeared, and I had to ask twice before receiving one. Additionally, when my elderly mother accidentally fell while getting up, neither the staff nor the other diners showed any empathy. I strongly advise against patronizing this establishment, as their behavior suggests deeply ingrained racism. Read more

A group of five of us planned a night out. The restaurant was very clean and beautifully decorated. The service was absolutely fantastic from the moment we were greeted, to when we left the restaurant. The drinks were fantastic, and the food was superb. The price for our meals was ... excellent, and we couldn’t have asked for a better evening out. Brown’s Social House is definitely worth checking out. Thanks to the great staff!! Visited the Chestermere location yesterday, decided to try this location on Elbow Drive. I enjoyed the goyzas from yesterday better, the chips and guacamole here were quite delicious. The beers were cold and crisp. The service here, was much better. There is on-street paid parking. This ... establishment was clean, tidy and well taken of. The music was conducive to an enjoyable stay. The patio looked great! We will be visiting the Mount Royal location in the next day or two. Read more
