Kudos to the team at Hawthorn Dining Room & Bar in the Fairmont Palliser. We had a very memorable wedding anniversary dinner! They offered us a table in front of an old fireplace, providing an intimate setting to enjoy our meal. Although my partner had doubts about sitting on the ... sofa with low tables, we found it quite comfortable and enjoyed our meals without any difficulty. We started the evening with bubbles and warm bread, followed by an Onion Tart Tatin (French Onion Tart) and a Sweet & Sour Beets salad. For entrees, we had Shrimp & Walleye and Bone-in Pork Loin. We finished by indulging in all their desserts served in one bowl. A special thank you to Jessica and the team for their excellent service, even though they were busy with a wedding dinner next to us. We stayed at the Palliser for a conference so we tried this place more than once. The bar drinks are VERY expensive. They are quite tasty but are definitely overpriced compared to other places close by that offer similar drinks. We had lunch one of the days we were there and found ... the food to be top notch. We have eaten in the lounge twice in the last two weeks. The drinks (both leaded and unleaded) were delicious and presented in an attractive manner. The clam chowder was served in a unique way and was so delicious. We enjoyed the carpaccio and tartare. Our favourite was definitely the ... ginger beef which is only on the bar menu. (probably can be ordered inside restaurant - just ask) The original recipe from the Chinese restaurant that invented this dish is being used. DELICIOUS! The live music on both nights was great. We prefer a table that is at a height that we could eat at. There are some tables that are more of a coffee table and harder to enjoy our meals at these tables. Had a nice brunch in the lounge area, it was quiet for a Saturday around 1:30pm. Server was friendly and attentive. The clam chowder has plenty of clams and came with with fresh cream broth. My husband enjoyed the poached egg bowl and i got the local egg omelet. It ... came with potatoes and and toast. I thought the omelet could have been more fluffy and a tad softer. My wife and I decided to try brunch here and were very happy overall. I had the vegan eggs and ordered a side of plant based sausage and my wife had the eggs benedict. Both dishes were very good.
