Sekai Udon Bar - Burnaby, British Columbia

When I used to come here, this restaurant's name was called Sui Sha Ya all you can eat, run by a chinese owner. Though the quality and service kinds sucked, it was awesome and the best place to hang out with friends. So we were all sad when it closed ... down. When Sekai Udon Bar first opened, we were curious and tried it. I think the new owners were Korean. But it was way more expensive than Sui Sha Ya, though with better quality of food and service. However, it was just too expensive to eat and hang out casually, though the food itself was complacent. I came back here almost a decade later (yesterday), and tried it again. This time we came during happy hour. I've never seen this promotion back then. The staff sound Japanese, so I was pretty excited to see the change and difference from before. There were more varieties like the Japoutine which I've only at sushi Shio. The staff this time were so friendly, I thought they changed owners again! (Which I think they actually did). But the servers, waitresses, and even the chef's were very kind and always smiling when I look at them. I think it's time to come back here regularly now! Read more

The food was pretty good. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Definitely better than some of the food you would find at the food court. Portions were a little small for what you are paying, but we got our food fairly quickly. Service was poor in my opinion. I had ... to flag down a waitress to order as they seem to just walk pass you if you don't. I also asked 2 different waitresses to refill my tea, and still never got a refill, so I gave up. We were there pretty early so it wasn't like they were busy Edit - Dec/2019 Decided to give them another try since it's been over a year the last time I was there. The food was still pretty tasty and service was better though it could be because we were there when they just opened so there wasn't very many customers. Nice place and waitress is friendly. Only one thing I have to point out: the rice for roll is cold!! The rice for roll is should be room temperature or warm. That’s mean the rice is fresh, it’s not pre-made. BTW: the salmon sashimi looks too red ( I ordered ... wild salmon ). Price is so so—compare with other sushi restaurant ( around Metrotown ). This is much better than the other noodle bar in the mall in terms of price and taste. Settle for the Eraberu lunch and you get more than what you pay for. You'll leave with a full stomach. Service is fast and friendly.

Their food is decent at best. But considering that it’s a restaurant in the mall, I would say it’s better than the rest of their competition. Their udon is made in-house and by hand everyday and their sushi rolls are palatable but presented quite well. Service is always friendly and ... quite quick at times.
