Firefighters Public House - Burnaby, British Columbia

Cool place to grab a bite or have a few drinks with friends. The service was good. One small problem though, the male and female restrooms are totally separate so it’s hard to find the male restroom.

I had a great time here with a friend yesterday for brunch. The place is very cozy and warm. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and the food was great and so were the prices. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place to eat ... and I'm sure I'll be back the next time I find myself in Burnaby. Read more

Good for a one time visit but not a repeat. Pros - humungous space, good Covid19 guidelines with distance and sanitizing, clean dining space and washrooms, amazing food, sports on big screen Cons - cold and unfriendly service, expensive prices same as the Big 4 Canadian chains - Cactus Club/Earl's/Joey/Browns levels, limited ... food menu other than pub food and few options for vegans and vegetarians, closes early at 8-9 I'd visited this place around a year back before Covid19. Back then, sitting for nearly 15 mins and no one came, I finally left. Didn't leave a review back then as I forgot. Decided to come here and try once again. This time the waitress came around quickly, and once seated she took personal details and also the drink order. Food is typical pub fare - onion rings, chicken wings, sandwiches, and burgers. The beyond meat veggie burger was delicious but lacking in sauce and lettuce/tomatoes. Pretty dry. But the salad was outstanding. Loved the dressing and nuts. Unfortunately once again the servers were distant and I felt I was unwelcome. There were only 2 of them for 10-12 tables with around 30-50 pax. This place needs atleast 1 more for sure, and 2 more will be really good to distribute the workload. And even then, they were chatting up the regulars (bigger groups rather than single pax) most of the time. It was difficult to get their attention and when they did, it felt as if I was disturbing them. Every regular starts off as a new first time client, and I didn't feel any affinity to this place to return and spend my money again. Even in the end, my bill was just plonked on the table without a word, or eye contact leave alone a pleasant attitude. Much better options in the area - the price is the same but you'll get much better service. There are plenty of dive bars where one feels much more welcome, at a lower hit on the pocket. 3 stars solely for excellent food, the kitchen staff is amazing and their hard work and craft shines through in the food. Dining here felt very safe - there was lots of space between the tables, and staff were following all PPE requirements. It was my first time here and the food really surpassed my expectations! I got the Public House Burger with yam fries which was delicious. We found out when we ... arrived that it was trivia night every Friday, and we had a lot of fun participating! We liked how there was a mix of questions to suit all ages, so no one felt left out or discouraged. Really a fun place to spend a physically-distanced night out. I wanted to visit this place for quite some time, given that it once was the Social and Athletic Club for active and retired firefighters. This place is ginormous with numerous TVs, a projector, darts, and a pool table. It is evident that it has seen its better days. The ... patio looks amazing, but it was already a bit too chilly to sit outside. Our waitress was very nice and attentive, definitely made our stay more enjoyable. They have some decent beers on tap and pretty extensive non-alcoholic beverages menu, which is very rare these days in the bars. The food is your standard pub fare, and I enjoyed the public house burger, precisely what I was craving when we came here. So I can't say there is something here that will blow you away, but it is onliest good ol' pub in the Metrotown area, and I'm pretty sure there are still lots of folks in the area that need one, so it has all rights to exist in current ever-evolving public eateries scene.
