A hidden gem that takes you back to the 50’s, this Chinese Canadian run restaurant is charming and the music is piped over a tinny radio which just adds to the atmosphere. The pricing is reasonable, the owners greet the regulars like family, and it is just a solid place ... for breakfast, burgers, and other diner fare. Oh, and the coffee is good. Read more
I really enjoyed my experience. The Cantonese-speaking owners have a really well-run operation for a small team. The cafe is well-maintained and offers a vintage vibe. I stopped in for breakfast and my coffee was constantly refilled, condiments were brought without needing to be requested, food was reasonably ... priced, quality was so-so with the hash browns. What really impressed me was the community vibe - there were a lot of local regulars right at opening - one of their regulars helped set up the patio set outside and they were catching up with their friends for a regular meet up. The lady who was serving everyone remembered multiple orders of her regulars and was very warm and welcoming to everyone in both English & Cantonese. She never stopped moving - getting coffee prepared, taking orders, delivering orders, checking in, gossiping with her regulars, coordinating with her husband in the kitchen or manning the till. The husband chef was constantly cooking and also managed to step out for a quick chat with some regulars while grabbing some coffee. Came for the food but stayed for the positive vibes to kick off a busy weekend. Overall, well done! Read more
The atmosphere is like going back to the early seventies. Friendly service both times we went. Good prices & old fashioned food. No sourdough bread so had to pay extra each time for rye bread. Breakfast first time and yesterday I had an old fashioned club house. Real turkey, was ... good. Old style crinkle fries were crispy. Love the nostalgic feel. Not fancy food just good prices and old style food. Even has Salisbury steak on the menu. Read more
I loved the retro 60s feel of this Chinese Canadian greasy spoon, from the sunburst wall decorations to the green chairs! I ordered the breaded pork cutlets (14.99). They were very thin, lightly breaded, juicy and crispy. It came swimming in a bath of tasty gravy! It also came with a ... side of vegetables and a choice of mashed potatoes or fries (I choose mashed potatoes). The mash was chunky how I like it ! They also had daily specials, like a hot beef sandwich, hamburger steak and more. These were the same price as the regular menu item but they came with a small cup of daily soup. Service was excellent here! Cash and debit only. Read more
What a gem! A definite throwback to ol’skool diners of past Vancouver times…but in BBY! What I say - authentic, value, greasy spoons - so good! Had the Cafe Hash - awesome, will def be back again!
