Golden Fish and Chips on Elgin Street - Brantford, Ontario

I'm not a fish and chips person but my husband is so we will get it for the family on occasion. This place was actually really good. I generally don't like to order fish because it ends up being too greasy for me and doesn't do that great as take ... out, it's soggy by the time it gets to you. The fish was drained well and I didn't find it too greasy. They package their take out in boxes they vent instead of wrapping it in paper so it wasn't soggy either. The portions were huge. My husband and I both had a fish and chips meal that was more than enough food. We got the kid's a chicken strip meal to share and it was enough for 2 large kids meals. They both got 2 huge chicken strips and a pile of fries. We will definitely order from here again not only was it delicious but when compared to other fish and chip places in town you're getting a great deal. Other places we have ordered from send you fish so tightly wrapped in paper it's soggy, all the batter comes off when you unwrap it, they give you a small handful of fries just thrown in the paper so when you unwrap your dinner they fall out all over the place. Trying to keep business expenses down is one thing but doing it at the expense of your customer's experience and dinner is another. I always reorder from place's when I feel like I got what I paid for or more and when I feel like the place actually cared about my experience. Golden fish and chips nailed both! used to eat there was pretty good at one time. tonight i order a large three peace cod and fries w/ coleslaw well first off there going to learn what word of mouth is, because it bad enough that you have to pay for tarter sauce but then i got ... my fish and it tasted bad the fries where black and nasty the whole hand full that there was and there was no coleslaw they need to wake up after this, i wouldn't let your dog eat there p.s. the only reason i gave it a one is because it won't let me put it any lower....... Not clean looking place. First time here. Thought id try it. Fish cod. Tasted salt n old n gross. Spent lots of money. Left a funny taste in mouth . Nobody ... ate it. hope i dont get sic. Not even fries. wasted money Read more

Fresh is best. 12PM, first customer. Breaded fish and perfectly cooked fries. Awesome taste and good portions.

Run down, dirty shack. Can't believe it has passed a health check. The floors were greasy, the ceiling was brown, the halibut fish was slimy and fishy tasting. $17. Worth went into the garbage. 1 piece of fish btw. The Health unit needs to inspect this place for sure.
