Taste of Mediterranean is a new eatery in the heart of downtown Brampton. As there are many great options around I always want to try the new pop-ups, especially since the food in downtown Brampton is so culturally varied now! My first impression is the clean and tidied, no frills entry ... and counter. In fact the employee was tidying up as I entered and I was greeted with the warmest smile from an employee in awhile! She was quick to take my order and fill it, plus with the combo options (8" pita or 12" wrap or pizza plus your choice of one of 8 sides for 7.99 8.99 or 6.99 respectively)my choice was pretty easy. Since they had Tabouli, I had to order it since for the most part you can get a good gist for the type and quality of ingredients from how these most basic ones are prepped. I also ordered the Lamb Gyro in a pita. As I arrived late I understood that it was in a warmer at the counter however it was still flavourful, hot and juicy a feat if I've ever seen one. My comrade also ordered a pita but chose their side as the potatoes. The pita topping choices are your usual (salad, pickle, olives.) They also had mixed veg rather than separate, but I didn't see just plain old tomatoes by themselves. Not a bad thing, but it's a bit odd not to see it. Sauces include hummus, tzatziki, garlic, tahina, hot sauce or donair sauce. Hot sauce is effectively akin to Frank's Red Hot, so nothing to write home about That pita was wrapped within an inch of its life. Like swaddling a babe, but like the nurses do at a hospital. "Over 9000" skill level on the pita wrap which definitely kept in the sauces while eating. 10/10 must see. When eating, the smells certainly beckoned! However that's kind of where my pluses fade. The vegetables and Tabouli tasted very old, as in they've released their juices like day old cut fruit. The tastes were quite alike, but not quite *there*. Perhaps it was that I arrived late around 6, but they just tasted like they were older than prepped that day. The hummus was ok, the garlic sauce ok and the tahina runny and didn't offer that nutty punch that you'd expect. The Tabouli used for the sandwich looked like the parsley was justthisside of not quite pureed, was dark and muted in colouring. But hey, it's going in the sandwich and maybe the glass is just altering how I'm seeing it, the sun is already starting to set, so the light's not the same. At least that's what I thought until they dished out my side of Tabouli. Same Tabouli. My brain said no, and for once my tongue agreed. Up closed the colour was dark, and slightly brown, the tomatoes had lost their juice and the red onions had also started to lose their red. The parsley was nearly pureed and it had the consistency of a spread rather than chopped parsley and a light salad. Very vinegary, bit of oil, but seemed like it was originally soaked up by the parsley. Altogether unpleasant and just not worth it. The potatoes were properly cooked and not soggy or over done, but they were placed in the equivalent of a storebought, runnier version of hunts Italian tomato sauce. You know the one that attempts to add in the Italian spices. Not the finest I've tasted, but not the worst either. Overall I give this place a 3 over a 2 because of the pluses and because I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that they can get better. The food certainly smells like the Mediterranean, but the taste is decidely a memory of just that. Read more
Nice and clean with lots of food options, seating and friendly service! Had the freshest gyro I've ever tasted and I look forward to coming back to try the rest of their menu. #brazeneats #brampton #tasteofmediterranean
Very clean restaurant, with excellent service. Family owned business with very kind people. Food was pretty good too. Prices are very reasonable. Portions are decent. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here. If I'm in the area, I would eat here again.
Awsome Mediterranean platter which have the best falafals in the town. Loved Tabouleh salad 🥗. Also Tzatziki tasted great. Look like Staff still under training as they just opened. My wife loved Pitas with Hummus.
This new eatery in downtown Brampton is delicious. The food is authentically Mediterranean. Finally Greek and falafel salad for lunch. Yummy and super affordable! One thing I did notice was the garlic sauce seemed like a runny mayo vinigarette, making it not so good anymore.
